I have been chosen as a “finalist” in the “Favorite Chef” contest that is sponsored by “Bon Appetit” magazine.
The winner of this contest receives a cash award of $20,000.000 and an article in “Bon Appetit” magazine.
I am sending this link out to all who I have come in contact with throughout my life and career asking that you all vote for me so I might be able to win.
If I am lucky enough to garner enough votes, I will be using this money to renovate and build new kitchens for two schools that I recently visited in Kenya. One of the schools…..Osando D.E.B. Secondary Girls School…. is an all girls school located in the Tea Farming regions of Sotick Kenya five hours away from Nairobi. I had the pleasure of being invited to visit and tour this school when I was in Kenya just this past December and was totally amazed by the school but really sad by the conditions that exist in the “kitchen” feeding 150 girls each day. The other school that I had been invited to tour is in the Nyeri area of Kenya...the Nyeri Townview Academy, which is closer but still needs my help. It feeds 400 students a day who are locals of the region.
Please look over my entry and pay close attention to the pictures of the schools and their kitchens. You will see the picture of their store room, along with the actual cooking area which is nothing more than an open fire pit with large pots. There is a picture of the cooks reaching out of a window to the students….that is their kitchen that they work in every day.
I am not about the money for myself but more about using this money, if I were to win, to help build these two schools better kitchens and teach the cooks a more diverse schedule of meals so that the students are kept healthy and able to endure. The article in Bon Appetit would focus on these schools and so many others just like these. You see….we in the United States just don’t understand how students in other countries have to live on a day to day basis. We would be shocked if we sent to our schools here in the U.S. and saw such conditions in our school cafeterias and the lack of actual cooking equipment that we all take for granted.
By voting for me you would be helping to bring my project to fruition. You ALL would be able to say that you are contributing to the success of students in another area of the world who need your assistance.
For both schools and their students….I THANK YOU!
