Two Kenyan startups are among the four finalists of the Africa Prize for Engineering, giving one of Africa's most innovative countries a 50 percent chance of bringing the crown back home for the second consecutive year.

The four were picked from a shortlist of 16 startups, after a rigorous process involving tens of submissions.

The winner of the top prize will be awarded GBP 50,000 (Approx KES 8.6 million) and will be announced this Thursday, October 16.

The other two finalists are from Uganda and Ghana. While any of the four innovations may win, Terp 360 by Elly Savatia is definitely a groundbreaker. Terp 360 is an app that provides human like interaction as it translates and interprets for hard-of-hearing and deaf people.
