Tiger Division Commander Reshuffles Kiir’s Security Detail

The commander of the Tiger Division, Maj. Gen. Philip Nyon, has overhauled President Salva Kiir’s security team, dismissing two senior officers from their posts.

Brig. Gen. Bang Wieu was removed as head of the close protection unit and replaced by Brig. Gen. Madut Ayai, while Col. Mawien Garang, a longtime presidential aide, was also dismissed. Both men have been barred from accessing the president or the M4 base near his residence.

The changes come just a week after Nyon himself was briefly replaced before being reinstated within hours.

Governor Rin Meets President Kiir

Juba, September 19, 2025 – President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Friday met with Lakes State Governor Rin Tueny Mabor to discuss challenges facing the state and ways the national government can support ongoing peace and development efforts.

During the meeting, Governor Rin reported that floods have severely affected several counties, destroying farmlands, displacing families, and killing livestock. He noted that security in the state remains largely calm, though occasional cattle raids from outside areas continue to pose threats.

The Governor also appealed for the resumption of construction on the Juba–Bahr el Ghazal road, describing it as a critical link for trade and services.
