Cost of a new motorbike: Ksh 120,000

Most rural men buy on credit.

- Deposit: Ksh 20,000

- Daily remittance: Ksh 400

- Duration: 18 months.

Total cost: Ksh 216,000 + Ksh 20,000 = 236,000.

Buying a motorbike for Ksh 236,000 is stupidity. The motorbike's worth is Ksh 120,000 or less.

After 18 months, the motorbike has depreciated and rendered useless.

In simple terms, the company selling you the motorbike has employed you to be their rider for Ksh 12,000 a month.

These companies are exploiting ignorant rural dwellers who lack financial literacy.

It is these companies that are reaping huge benefits from this industry.

The rider ends up poorer in a cycle of poverty.

Colonialism did not end, it just got smarter and shrewd.

Keep your rural folks away from this unproductive industry.
