"It was my sister-in-law who was in charge of the Christmas pilau last year. But let me tell you: every one of us cooked that pilau. And when it was ready, it tasted like the pilau each one of us makes in our individual kitchens spread across the country: Chodari, Kilifi, Mombasa, Nairobi, Eldoret.

Ama kweli, whoever said too many cooks spoil the broth has never stepped into an African kitchen. Especially over Christmas."

Kenyan writer Idza Luhumyo writes this beautiful tribute about the power of the woman's "place" in the kitchen. Check it out in the latest issue of Kali Letter.
