Ketebul Music

Ketebul Music Ketebul Music is a not for profit organization incorporated by various stakeholders in the music production industry.

Ketebul means “drum sticks”; the word is derived from the Luo language of Western Kenya. The name was a natural choice for an organization that has a vision of an African society that celebrates its cultural identity and also recognizes the special role that artistes play every day in people’s lives.

Yesterday, we wrapped up our final The Singing Wells field recording session in Nairobi with Papillon Musa (Martin Murimi), a creative contemporary Nyatiti artist. He was accompanied by Paul Shiundu and Mambo Nziva, and together they delivered a thoughtful and engaging session.

The Ketebul Music team is now in post-production, and the recordings will be available soon on our online platforms. Thank you for following the journey.

During our Singing Wells field recording in Siaya County, the Ketebul Music team set aside a quiet moment to visit the resting place of the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. Led by our founding director Tabu Osusa, the visit became one of the most touching moments of the trip.
WINYO of Ketebul Music stood by the graveside and performed a moving tribute song “loo okao” he had composed in honour of the late leader. His voice carried a sense of gratitude, respect and deep reflection. For all of us present, it was a powerful reminder of the role music plays in preserving memory and paying homage to those who shaped our nation.
We were also joined by the Benga musician Otieno Small.
The legacy of the Right Honorable Raila Odinga will always stay with us.

Anyango Nyar Siaya’s ebook is finally out. It’s the beautiful story of Eriko Mukoyama, the Japanese woman who came all the way from Tokyo to Siaya to learn and master the nyatiti.
You’ll love her journey and the inspiration behind it.

Anyango could hear Okumu's voice:“Anyango, travel the world and play the nyatiti. Go to the places I could not, and let this music be heard.”This is the incredible story of Eriko Mukoyama, fondly known as Anyango Nyar Siaya (Anyango, the daughter of Siaya), a Japanese woman who travelled thousan...

We mourn the passing of Rt.Hon. Raila Odinga. His passion, courage, and deep connection to the people left an indelible mark on modern Kenya. It will never be forgotten.
Just as his love for the people was expressed through his activism, Raila’s love for music was remarkable. He was a lover of Kenyan classics - Swahili rumba, African twist and benga.
From all of us at Ketebul Music, Kenya has lost one of its greatest sons.
May he rest in peace.

She was born in Tokyo. Captivated by African music, she traveled alone to a remote village in Kenya for training, and became the world’s first female performer of the traditional string instrument, the nyatiti, which was traditionally reserved only for a select few men in the region. In 2009, Anya...
