It’s been over 48 hours since the Fulham game at Old Trafford, and now that the emotions have cooled, we can look at it properly.
United weren’t great.
Truth is… Fulham were very good.
Yes, we dug deep. Yes, we found a winner. And credit for staying calm under pressure.
But the overall performance? Far from convincing.
❌ Fulham progressed the ball too easily
❌ United struggled to keep possession in the final third
❌ The press was weak and too easy to play through
It honestly felt like Carrick underestimated how sharp Fulham would be on the ball. Quick, intelligent, brave in possession.
And let’s be real — this isn’t new.
Ten Hag struggled with it.
Amorim struggled with it.
Now Carrick is facing the same issue.
Pressing well + controlling the ball high up the pitch is still a problem.
Fulham are a strong, well-coached side, and while they impressed, we still deserved the win for the fight we showed. But there’s a lot of work to do, especially out of possession.
With Spurs next… you can’t give players like Kolo Muani or Solanke space in behind like Fulham (and especially Chukwueze) got.
Do that again and we won’t be so lucky.
Progress? Yes.
Finished product? Not even close.

When you play with just two midfielders, you’re always short somewhere.
You can’t overload zones, you can’t control space, and the so-called “extra man” usually ends up being a centre-back — not someone who can actually hurt the opponent. ❌🧠
