We are always proud when our trainees take bold, meaningful steps after going through our training.

Madikizela Otieno is one such example.

As a seasoned legal professional, Madi spent years practicing traditional law. But over time, she began to sense a shift. Today’s legal challenges — especially around business, risk, and compliance — demand a broader, forward-looking lens. A lens that integrates Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles.

That’s what led her to join our Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Certification Training.

Through the program, she deepened her understanding of the GRI framework, discovered the strategic value of sustainability, and learned how to align her legal expertise with ESG expectations.

And now? She’s putting it into practice in powerful, real-world ways.

✅ Madi has successfully pivoted to ESG-focused legal advisory, helping companies embed sustainability into their governance and operations.

🌍 Most notably, she recently supported a project developer in navigating carbon market policy across 8 African countries.

This is the future of law — strategic, sustainability-driven, and impact-oriented.

But it’s not just for lawyers.

Whether you are in finance, communications, compliance, development, or strategy, the GRI Certification Training Program empowers you to apply an ESG lens to your work — and unlock new opportunities, just as Madi has done.

📅 Our next cohort kicks off on August 11th.

Ready to pivot?

As the world prepares for COP30 Belem, Brazil - Extreme Hangout, Brazil is already walking the talk.

Through the newly launched Climate Dialogues — a collaborative initiative by Embrapa, Brazil’s agricultural research powerhouse, and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) — the country is bringing agriculture to the centre of the climate conversation.

At the launch held in Brasília, leaders emphasized what many of us in Africa have long known: farmers are not just vulnerable to climate change — they are also key to solving it.

With regional dialogues planned across Brazil’s diverse ecosystems and an ambitious presence at COP30 in Belém do Pará, Brazil is showcasing how science, innovation, and farmer-led action can drive real climate solutions.

In our latest piece on Africa Sustainability Matters, we ask: What can Africa learn from Brazil’s model? And more importantly: How can we adapt it to our own contexts

As the world prepares for the COP30 climate summit in Belém do Pará this November, Brazil has set the tone with a bold message: agriculture must be recognized as a climate solution, not just a victim or contributor to the crisis.
