My Take on the 2025 DMC World Final
The DJ world is buzzing after the DMC Final in Tokyo. Fumi (Japan) won, but K-Swizz (NZ) was a close second. There's a big debate on who really won, and as a pro DJ, here's my breakdown.
K-Swizz (2nd Place): Pure aggressive skill. His set was tight, and his 3/4-time-signature Michael Jackson juggle was musically brilliant. He topped it off with a long, complex blindfolded routine—showing incredible guts and precision.
Fumi (1st Place): All about innovation. His set was built on creative and unique body tricks, like using his elbow to work the fader. It was a style all his own.
The Problem? Both DJs were technically flawless, but both also fell back on some very old, unoriginal juggle patterns that we've all heard before.
My Verdict: I'd have given the win to K-Swizz. While Fumi’s originality was impressive, K-Swizz's 3/4 juggle and blindfold routine showed a higher level of raw difficulty and "wow" factor. But it was a close call, and the judges rewarded Fumi’s innovation.
The Lesson: What we teach at Beats and Vibes DJ Academy is this: You must master your craft, but you win by being original. That's what separates the good from the great.
