: Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo Accuses Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Targeting Political Opponents in Drone Strike, Warns Against โ€˜Political Assassinationโ€™

Former Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi has condemned a reported drone strike on the Doolow residence of former prisons chief Gen. Mahad Abdirahman Adan, accusing President Hassan Sheikh Mohamudโ€™s administration of targeting political opponents and demanding an urgent, independent investigation.

In a statement issued on Friday, Farmajo said the general had been injured in the attack. He wished him a speedy recovery and described the incident as a threat to Somaliaโ€™s state-building efforts and national reconciliation.

Farmajo identified Mahad as a member of Somaliaโ€™s 11th federal parliament and a former commander of the Somali Custodial Corps, noting his long service to the country.

โ€œThis horrific attack on the home of General Mahad Abdirahman Adan undermines state-building and efforts to reconcile the Somali people,โ€ Farmajo said in the Somali-language statement. โ€œIt is an act of brutality that we must reject with one voice.โ€

The former president alleged that Mohamudโ€™s administration had used a drone to target the generalโ€™s residence in Doolow. The statement did not provide supporting evidence establishing who carried out or authorised the reported strike.

Farmajo accused Mohamud, whom he described as a president whose term had expired, of directing such attacks against politicians with opposing views. He warned that targeting political opponents risked returning Somalia to divisions that had damaged public trust.

Addressing the wider dispute in Southwest State, Farmajo said the crisis was political and required dialogue and reconciliation.

โ€œThe problems in Southwest State are political and must be addressed through dialogue and reconciliation. Their solution cannot come through political assassination,โ€ he said.

His statement linked the reported attack to the political confrontation in Southwest State, framing it as an escalation that could undermine efforts to resolve disagreements peacefully.

Farmajo concluded by calling for an immediate, independent investigation into the targeting of Mahad.

: Urges , and to Scrutinise Actions It Says Threaten and Regional Stability

authorities have called on the United Nations to urgently review its decision to lift Somaliaโ€™s arms embargo, following an overnight airstrike in Doolow that the regional administration blamed on Tรผrkiye.

In a statement, Jubbaland urged Somaliaโ€™s international partners, including the , African Union, , United States and European Union, to closely examine actions involving Tรผrkiye that it said threatened Somali and regional interests.

The administration called for a review of the arms embargo decision, arguing that weapons donated to Somalia should be entrusted to responsible authorities capable of ensuring their proper use.

It said the decision should be reconsidered pending the establishment of what it described as a responsible government and trustworthy institutions to manage internationally supplied weapons.

The demand follows Jubbalandโ€™s accusation that Tรผrkiye carried out the reported strike on the Doolow home of former Somali prisons chief Gen. Mahad Abdirahman โ€œShub.โ€

Jubbaland also challenged Tรผrkiyeโ€™s suitability to mediate Somaliaโ€™s internal political disputes, accusing Ankara of fully supporting one side.

The administration said Tรผrkiye could no longer be regarded as a credible participant in domestic mediation efforts. It argued that Turkish involvement had become an obstacle to dialogue and reconciliation between Somali groups with differing political views.

Those remarks represent Jubbalandโ€™s position and do not establish that Tรผrkiye has been formally excluded from any mediation process.
