STATEMENT ON MY ATTACK AND ARREST

I wish to inform the public, colleagues, friends and supporters that I was attacked on the night of 16 September 2026 at approximately 9:30 p.m. while attending the Uragate Cultural Festival.
According to my account, a group of individuals attacked and assaulted me, during which my camera bag was stolen. Shortly thereafter, I encountered police officers from Shauri Makutano Police Post who, I allege, also assaulted me before placing me under arrest.
I remained in custody until approximately 10:00 a.m. the following morning, when I was released following several phone calls and interventions by friends and well-wishers.
I am deeply grateful to everyone who stood by me during this difficult period. I particularly appreciate my friends and supporters who made calls, offered assistance and advocated for my release.
I also sincerely thank the Office of Hon. Gitetu, Incoming Mukothima Ward MCA 2027, and the Office of the Tharaka Member of Parliament, led by his Personal Assistant, Jack Kithinji (Ngonia), for their support and concern during my arrest.
As a journalist and media practitioner, I believe that every citizen is entitled to safety, dignity and the freedom to work without intimidation or violence. I therefore call upon the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding my assault, the alleged theft of my camera equipment and my subsequent arrest.
I further urge political leaders and their supporters to reject violence and intimidation in all forms. If any individuals acted on behalf of political interests, those responsible should be identified through a proper investigation and held accountable in accordance with the law.
I extend my sincere appreciation to everyone who stood with me. Your calls, messages, presence and support gave me strength during this challenging time.
