We regret to inform you that this Tuesday (07/01/26); Nick, our co-founder and director, has passed away.
It still feels unreal to us.
Since October, Nick had been battling a rare bone marrow disorder called hypocellular MDS. Despite his unwavering optimism and the unconditional support of his community, Nick has lost the battle. With the loss of Nick, we are not only losing a colleague and great filmmaker, but also a friend, more precisely; a true companion in life.
When Nick and Maurice started Folklore in 2015, they weren’t simply founding a company. For Nick, filmmaking was a way of seeing the world. A film didn’t have to be perfect, a story had to be out there, it had to be told. Nick would sleep on the streets, and at times even risk his own life, because nothing was too much for making a movie. Nick wasn’t just working on a story, he became the story.
For now, we honestly don’t know yet how Folklore can continue its journey without Nick. We will need time to absorb the loss of our dear friend. But one thing is certain: the spark in Nick’s eyes, whether he was sharing his own film ideas or listening to someone else’s, will remain with us. It will keep pushing us to carry forward his love for filmmaking, and to translate it into stories .
