Documentation of Aspergillus Aflatoxin Resistant Groundnuts.

FtMA in collaboration with WFP is supporting smallholder farmers in Homabay and Migori counties with the goal of increasing production, productivity, and marketability of aspergillus aflatoxin resistant groundnuts for improved food security, nutrition, and increased incomes for smallholder farmers. Interventions focus around enhancing seed availability of quality aspergillus resistant groundnut seed varieties through local seed bulking, adoption of climate smart agriculture and agronomic practices, improving quality and volumes aggregated and sold through the farmer service centres (FSCs) and linkages to offtake markets.

Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is a crucial sustainable farming practice involving all available pest control techniques and subsequent integration of appropriate measures that discourage the development of pest populations. It combines biological, chemical, physical and crop specific (cultural) management strategies and practices to grow healthy crops and minimize the use of pesticides, reducing or minimizing risks posed by pesticides to human health and the environment for sustainable pest management. As part of their commitment to promoting sustainable and environmentally conscious agricultural practices, Farm to Market Alliance (FtMA) trains farmers, emphasizing on Sustainable Agriculture practices. These training encourages the widespread adoption of Sustainable Agriculture practices for improved livelihoods among smallholder farmers through well-coordinated grassroots initiatives led by the Farmer Service Centres (FSCs).
