GOVERNOR OTUOMA LUANCHES CONSTRUCTION OF MUNGATSI AND AROMA MARKETS
Busia Governor, H.E Dr. Paul Otuoma has officially handed over the construction works for the Mungatsi and Aroma (Mabunge) markets in Nambale and Matayos Sub counties respectively.
The modern market projects are a product of successful collaboration between the County Government of Busia and the National Government.
Each of the markets, set to cost Ksh 50 million, will accommodate 200 traders each and is expected to be completed within six months.
These projects are part of the Government's Economic Stimulus Programs (ESPs), which aim to boost the local economy by providing a conducive environment for modern trade.
The markets will feature several components designed to support both male and female traders. Among the key features are a breastfeeding section for women with children, a boardroom for meetings, and an ICT hub that will enable traders to access wider markets through the internet.
In his address, Governor Otuoma emphasized the importance of using the internet for business, urging the youth to leverage social media platforms positively for their own personal growth.
“Many people worldwide are using social media to build successful businesses and fight poverty. We must learn from them and use the internet to our advantage,” said Dr. Otuoma.
The Governor also encouraged locals to join cooperatives to benefit from government incentives, including the Trade Revolving Fund and the Cooperatives Enterprise Development Fund.
The event was attended by Nambale Member of Parliament. Hon. Geoffrey Mulanya, Polycarp Onyango (Director, State Department for Housing and Urban Development), Olakachuna Omuse (CECM for Trade, Investments, Industries, Cooperatives, and SMEs), Members of the Busia County Assembly and other county officials.
The project is expected to significantly improve the economic conditions of the region by modernizing trade facilities.
