WHIPPING LIFE WITH A SMILE
Sylvester Oluoch - July 3rd 2017.
Life, you come clothed in rainbow colors, and not all your shirts have collars
You promise me profits, but make my counterparty choose deceit to sway the trade
You fit me with your compromised looking glass that only sees my world in caste and class
But when you believe I am pursuing bargains, I choose the way of service and compassion
Life, when I buy coal you rig my supplier’s mind to send pebbles to create suspicion in my soul
Your currency is in the wallet; mine is in the heart and I trounce tricky you with my golden sole
Are your earphones for clear hearing? No, they are bugged with your own forms of troll
You think I am under the spell of your echo chamber but I can hear the cricket’s song
Life, you give me roses as a tool for love, but you sneak in thorns making me a fool
You teach me the metrics of receiving, but in my soul only dwells the measures of giving
In my garden of thought you sow seeds of doubt, fear and superstition but I choose my own
When you think I am limping, I hop and skip so I cannot sink because with faith I roll
Life, you command me to memorize only my deepest hurts but I ignore your commands
I match your treachery by memorizing my fondest, and skywards I make my demands
You teach me the good that cannot work and the bad that works, but I choose piety over all
Impetuously, I go round you and nourish my mind with all that lead to heavenly riches.
Life, you wait for my week of harvest and you hail on my crop hoping that I will break, drop
You send erratic winds to sway my boat but I constantly adjust and reset my sail onto course
When you expect me to get into fright and flight, I go a mile over you with a smile and fight
To my cause I stay loyal as a dog. Life you are whipped for I define my own, with a smile.
