Kenya is crying — you can see it in the painted black tears, you can feel it in the silence inside our homes, and you can hear it in the chants on our streets during maandamano. This portrait tells our truth: we cover our sadness with our flag, but we cannot hide forever. One side of her face shows vitiligo makeup — a reminder that we are all different, yet the same. Different tribes, backgrounds, struggles — but one dream: justice, dignity, and freedom.
Every day, young people wake up jobless, hungry, and afraid to speak because their voices are silenced with force. They march for better, but bullets and batons greet them instead of solutions. This is the state of Kenya today — a country strong enough to fight but hurting too much to heal alone.
May this photo remind us that we are not alone. We stand with brave people and groups who fight every day to protect human rights and speak truth to power. To everyone raising their voices — we see you. We thank you.
Together with — may our tears turn into courage, and may our courage bring real change. 🇰🇪✊🏾
