BREAKING NEWS!

Bishop Kamomoe Appointed Apostolic Administrator of Wote Diocese

By Rose Achiego Ande

Nairobi, September 21, 2025 — The Dicastery for Evangelization has appointed the Rt. Rev. Simon Peter Kamomoe, Auxiliary Bishop of Wote, as the Apostolic Administrator sede plena et ad nutum Sanctae Sedis of the Catholic Diocese of Wote. The announcement was made by the Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya, Archbishop Bert
Van Megen, through a decree dated September 18, 2025.

The appointment, effective September 21, grants Bishop Kamomoe full faculties to govern the Diocese of Wote. The move comes as the diocese continues to pray for the complete recovery of its ordinary, the Right Reverend Paul Kariuki Njiru, the first Bishop of Wote.

Bishop Kamomoe, who has been serving as Auxiliary Bishop of Wote since August 2025, brings with him wide pastoral and administrative experience. He was ordained bishop in 2023 to assist in shepherding the Archdiocese of Nairobi before his transfer to Wote.

The Catholic Diocese of Wote, erected in July 2021 after being carved out of the Diocese of Machakos, covers Makueni County and its environs. With a growing Catholic population and diverse pastoral needs, the diocese faces both opportunities and challenges in evangelization, education, and social transformation.

Since his installation in 2022, Bishop Kariuki Njiru, formerly Bishop of Embu, has laid the foundation for diocesan structures and prioritized evangelization, Catholic education, and social development initiatives in a region often burdened by economic hardship.

On August 23, 2025, the diocese celebrated a moment of grace at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Wote, when Bishop Kamomoe was installed as Auxiliary Bishop. The solemn Mass was presided over by Archbishop Philip Anyolo of Nairobi and concelebrated by several bishops, with clergy, religious, and thousands of lay faithful in attendance. The celebration marked a new chapter for the young diocese as it embraced renewed strength in faith and mission.

With his new mandate as Apostolic Administrator, Bishop Kamomoe is entrusted with ensuring continuity in governance and pastoral care. His appointment signals both stability for the diocese and the Vatican’s confidence in his leadership.

Archbishop van Megen, in his communication to the bishops of Kenya, extended prayerful wishes, inviting the faithful to remain united in prayer for Bishop Kariuki Njiru’s recovery and to support Bishop Kamomoe in his new responsibilities.

WHY ARE THEY CALLED THE SYNOPTIC WRITERS?

_________________
Have you ever noticed that Matthew, Mark, and Luke often sound like they are telling the same story in the same way?
They walk together. They see together. They speak together.

That’s why the Church calls them “Synoptic.”
The word comes from two Greek roots: “syn” (together) and “opsis” (to see).
So, Synoptic means “seeing together.”

Think of it this way: imagine three people standing in front of the same house.
– Matthew looks from the left.
– Mark stands in the middle.
– Luke views it from the right.
They’re all describing the same house, but each one notices different details.

Matthew, writing for Jewish Christians, points out how Jesus fulfills the Law and the Prophets.
Mark, fiery and urgent, writes for persecuted believers in Rome, his Gospel is like a fast heartbeat.
Luke, the careful historian and physician, shows the tenderness of Christ’s mercy, especially for the poor, women, and sinners.

Three voices. One Gospel story.
Not copies. Not contradictions. But a harmony, three windows opening to the same Christ.

That’s why when you lay Matthew, Mark, and Luke side by side, their stories often “line up.” Scholars call this “parallel passages.” It’s almost like three witnesses describing the same event with their own unique touch.

And here’s the beauty: together, the Synoptics show us that the Gospel is not locked in one person’s memory. It is a living truth, witnessed by many, echoing the same song:
“Jesus is Lord.”

John’s Gospel, by contrast, is not “Synoptic.” He tells the same Jesus-story but from the heights of contemplation, theology, and intimacy. If Matthew, Mark, and Luke are like three musicians playing the same melody, John is the one adding a soaring harmony that lifts the soul to heaven.

So next time you hear “Synoptic Gospel,” remember this:
It means seeing Christ together.
Different eyes. Different voices. But one Light shining through.

God bless you 🙏

Gospel
Luke 16:1-13
Jesus said to his disciples,
"A rich man had a steward
who was reported to him for squandering his property.
He summoned him and said,
'What is this I hear about you?
Prepare a full account of your stewardship,
because you can no longer be my steward.'
The steward said to himself, 'What shall I do,
now that my master is taking the position of steward away from me?
I am not strong enough to dig and I am ashamed to beg.
I know what I shall do so that,
when I am removed from the stewardship,
they may welcome me into their homes.'
He called in his master's debtors one by one.
To the first he said,
'How much do you owe my master?'
He replied, 'One hundred measures of olive oil.'
He said to him, 'Here is your promissory note.
Sit down and quickly write one for fifty.'
Then to another the steward said, 'And you, how much do you owe?'
He replied, 'One hundred kors of wheat.'
The steward said to him, 'Here is your promissory note;
write one for eighty.'
And the master commended that dishonest steward for acting prudently.

"For the children of this world
are more prudent in dealing with their own generation
than are the children of light.
I tell you, make friends for yourselves with dishonest wealth,
so that when it fails, you will be welcomed into eternal dwellings.
The person who is trustworthy in very small matters
is also trustworthy in great ones;
and the person who is dishonest in very small matters
is also dishonest in great ones.
If, therefore, you are not trustworthy with dishonest wealth,
who will trust you with true wealth?
If you are not trustworthy with what belongs to another,
who will give you what is yours?
No servant can serve two masters.
He will either hate one and love the other,
or be devoted to one and despise the other.
You cannot serve both God and mammon."

"No one has gone up to heaven
except the one who has come down from heaven, the Son of Man.
And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert,
so must the Son of Man be lifted up,
so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life."

For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son,
so that everyone who believes in him might not perish

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world,

Wisdom 9:13-18b

Responsorial Psalm
Psalm 90:3-4, 5-6, 12-13, 14 and 17

Gospel
Luke 14:25-33

Great crowds were traveling with Jesus,
and he turned and addressed them,
“If anyone comes to me without hating his father and mother,
wife and children, brothers and sisters,
and even his own life,
he cannot be my disciple.
Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after me
cannot be my disciple.
Which of you wishing to construct a tower
does not first sit down and calculate the cost
to see if there is enough for its completion?
Otherwise, after laying the foundation
and finding himself unable to finish the work
the onlookers should laugh at him and say,
‘This one began to build but did not have the resources to finish.’
Or what king marching into battle would not first sit down
and decide whether with ten thousand troops
he can successfully oppose another king
advancing upon him with twenty thousand troops?
But if not, while he is still far away,
he will send a delegation to ask for peace terms.
In the same way,
anyone of you who does not renounce all his possessions
cannot be my disciple.”

HAPPY NEW MONTH!

September - The Birth of the Virgin Mary

October - Month of the Holy Rosary

November - Month of Prayer for the Dead

December - Birth of our Lord and Savior

As the Church’s calendar moves from September to December, we journey through themes of life, prayer, remembrance, and hope.

● In September, we celebrate the Birth of the Virgin Mary, the dawn of salvation history. Her “yes” opened the way for Christ.

● In October, we honor the Holy Rosary, a powerful prayer that helps us meditate on the life of Jesus through Mary’s eyes.

● In November, we remember the faithful departed, uniting ourselves with them in prayer and entrusting their souls to God’s mercy.

● In December, we rejoice in the Birth of Christ, our Savior, who entered the world in humility to bring light, peace, and redemption.

Each month calls us to deepen our faith, live in prayerful hope, and prepare our hearts for the coming of the Lord.

🙏 Prayer

Heavenly Father,
We thank You for the gift of the Church’s seasons that guide us closer to Your heart.
Through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary,
help us to grow in prayer and holiness.
Grant eternal rest to all the faithful departed,
and fill us with the joy of Christ’s birth,
so that we may live as children of Your light.

Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
