The Business Class's Hypocrisy: A Self-Inflicted Wound on Democracy and Economic Growth

The business community often finds itself at odds with the political class, decrying the detrimental effects of political interference and incompetent policies on their enterprises. Yet, a profound hypocrisy lies at the heart of this lament. While quick to criticize the political class, the business community frequently undermines the very voices that strive for accountability, better governance, and prudent policies. This self-serving behavior, disguised as a defense mechanism, not only impedes the growth of democracy but also creates a fertile ground for the very economic recession they so desperately fear.

The business community's hypocrisy manifests itself in various forms. They readily condemn the political class for corruption and mismanagement, yet shy away from supporting those who dare to challenge the status quo. They bemoan the lack of a conducive business environment, yet ostracize suppliers and business partners who actively engage in political discourse, demanding transparency and accountability. This fear-driven approach stems from a misguided belief that political neutrality will shield them from the wrath of those in power. However, this silence comes at a steep price, perpetuating a cycle of incompetence and economic instability.

The business community's reluctance to support voices of dissent is rooted in a short-sighted pursuit of self-preservation. They prioritize their immediate interests, fearing that any association with political activism might jeopardize their relationships with the ruling elite. This myopic view fails to recognize that a thriving democracy and a stable economy are inextricably linked. By silencing those who advocate for good governance, the business community inadvertently contributes to the very conditions that stifle economic growth.

The irony is palpable. The business community, while decrying the state of the economy, actively contributes to its deterioration by stifling the voices that could pave the way for a more conducive business environment. This self-defeating behavior is akin to a farmer refusing to w**d his field for fear of disturbing the crops, only to watch his harvest dwindle due to unchecked w**ds.

Imagine a scenario where the business community actively supports those who speak truth to power. Imagine a scenario where they embrace suppliers and partners who champion transparency and accountability. In such a scenario, the political class would be held to a higher standard, compelled to implement policies that foster economic growth and stability. The business community, in turn, would reap the benefits of a thriving economy, free from the shackles of corruption and mismanagement.

The benefits of such an approach are manifold. A vibrant democratic space, where dissent is encouraged and accountability is demanded, creates a fertile ground for economic growth. When the political class is held accountable for its actions, it is more likely to implement policies that favor businesses and promote economic stability. Moreover, a strong democratic culture fosters transparency and reduces corruption, creating a level playing field for businesses of all sizes.

The business community's current approach is not only self-defeating but also morally questionable. By choosing silence over support, they become complicit in the very ills they decry. They betray the principles of fairness and justice, prioritizing their narrow interests over the well-being of the nation. This moral bankruptcy undermines their credibility and erodes public trust in the business sector.

The business community must realize that their long-term interests are best served by supporting those who strive for a better society. By embracing the voices of dissent, they can contribute to the creation of a more just and equitable society, where businesses can thrive and democracy can flourish. This is not a call for the business community to become overtly political, but rather to recognize the interconnectedness of democracy and economic growth.

The business community's silence in the face of injustice is a self-inflicted wound. It is a betrayal of their own interests and a disservice to the nation. It is time for the business community to shed its hypocrisy and embrace the principles of accountability and transparency. It is time for them to recognize that their own prosperity is inextricably linked to the well-being of the nation.

The business community must remember the wise words of Edmund Burke: "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." By choosing silence, they inadvertently become enablers of the very forces that threaten their own existence. It is time for the business community to stand up for what is right, to support those who speak truth to power, and to contribute to the creation of a better society for all.

The business community's fear-driven approach is not only detrimental to the nation but also to their own long-term interests. It is time for them to recognize that their prosperity is inextricably linked to the well-being of the nation. By embracing the principles of accountability and transparency, they can contribute to the creation of a more just and equitable society, where businesses can thrive and democracy can flourish.

The business community's silence in the face of injustice is a self-inflicted wound. It is a betrayal of their own interests and a disservice to the nation. It is time for the business community to shed its hypocrisy and embrace the principles of accountability and transparency. Dear Entrepreneur, You cannot spend a minute before God every morning & expect Him to give you the world, make you successful, protect you etc. Time Spent before God is Proportionate to how your day will pan out like. The more time you spend before Him, the more you WIN.

Over the past two years, Kenyans' incomes have dropped by 12%. For a gross salary of Sh50,000, take-home pay fell 5.7%, from Sh41,450 to Sh39,000, driven by new taxes like the housing levy, higher NSSF, and now SHIF contributions.

If you crave real change, know what you want and choose your circle wisely. Growth dies in negativity. Success can't breathe in irresponsibility. Love won’t thrive in hate. Your environment fuels or drains you—surround yourself with those who elevate you. The right people matter.

Dear Entrepreneur,

It’s perfectly okay to cancel plans and prioritize rest. Taking care of your well-being fuels the energy and creativity you need to build your dream.

It’s also okay to step away from social media to focus on the life you're creating. Real growth happens in the present moment, not on a screen.

And if you find comfort in wearing the same clothes every day, embrace it! Consistency isn’t about appearances; it's about dedication to your purpose.

Remember, success is about progress, not popularity. Choose what helps you grow, and let everything else fade into the background.

Rigathi Gachagua says he has been telling the President the following:

—Don't overtax people; you're killing their businesses.
—Don't evict people without compensation.
—Don't force the housing program on people.
—This Adani deal isn't good for the country.
—There's too much corruption.

In 2013, we chose to destroy the country and the past 12 years have been nothing but the destruction of our beautiful country. If we do not wake up now and fight back and take it from these thieves, South Sudan, Sudan and Somalia will look like paradises. This political class is full of thieves who are dealers and they are living their best lives on our taxes as we die for lack of medicines and hospital equipment. Enough is Enough.
