How to propagate Azolla

Azolla is an aquatic plant that grows in water so the first thing you need is a source of water like a pond or just containers.

Then you need the seeds and manure.

Put you manure in the pond then add your azolla and watch them grow in two weeks.

Harvest and it regrows. This way you'll save on the cost of feeds.

It's important to note that azolla thrives well in a shade and the amount of manure depends on the size of your pond or container.

This is 2 years ago try azolla in Mombasa. The azolla grew so well and our poultry loved it so much.

Our biggest take away was you need a good shade for the azolla to thrive well and borehole or county water is excellent.

We then went and installed for a client in Likoni and the azolla grew like no one's business.

How do you call this plant in your area and how do you use it?

In our village, this used to be our tissue paper but word has it that it's a very useful plant more than that.

Mexican mint as it's called in English, also known as Indian borage or Plectranthus amboinicus, has a range of potential medicinal uses including soothing respiratory ailments, supporting skin health, and potentially reducing stress and anxiety.

It may also aid digestion, reduce inflammation

This building behind me has a story

I Went to visit a farmer in Kajiado just past Kajiado town.

10 minutes from Kajiado on the highway we make a stop at this place that from our map says is called "Duka Moja"

Duka Moja? We are puzzled and immediately knew that there is more to the name.

In this place the majority are Maasais and maasai is the main language here.

"Soba" greeted this old maasai with the Maasai stick and a red lined clean maasai lesso covered horizontally from his shoulders to his knees.

"Eba" I responded because I know some few words just for asking water you know.

The old man then went to say a whole paragraph in Maasai which just passed my ears like the desert wind 😂😂😂. I understood nothing 😅😅. You see this old man thought I was one of them after confidently responding "eba".

"Pole sana, hiyo imenipita" I responded.

"Sie, wewe sio eroo? " He responded a bit shocked.

"Hapana, na mbona hapa inaitwa Duka Moja?" I asked the old man.

He then took me to this house behind me and told me the tale that this was the first shop in this area along this highway from Bisil to Kajiado town. The travellers from the border would call it Duka Moja till the name stuck.

Now there are many shops and it's a growing centre.
