We had a great day at The Arbor last Sunday discussing You Made A Fool of Death With Your Beauty by Akwaeke Emezi and yes, the debate was a lot! I think this book really does push us to think about female desire and what it looks like. We may not agree on what is "right or wrong", but that's not the debate. The debate is whether we are allowed to honour our desires and what that looks like in a world that curtails, disregards and even denies female desire. We definitely had a lot to think about on why our first instinct was to side-eye Feyi's choices before getting to the place where we really could admire a woman who chose her happiness and honoured her desires!

Looking forward to our next book club meet-up! Our book club café hops once a month and is open to women. Link in bio!

As the year winds down, we’re grateful for this community, the conversations, the care, the courage, and the stories we’ve shared together. Thank you for reading, listening, showing up, and believing in the power of African women’s voices.

Here’s to rest, reflection, joy, and returning in the new year ready to keep telling bold, honest stories.

Violence against women has never been static. It adapts to the technologies, social norms, and communication networks of its time. Today, as life increasingly unfolds online, a new terrain of harm has emerged: Technology-facilitated Gender-Based violence (TFGBV). This form of abuse is not confined to screens; it spills into homes, workplaces, relationships, and public life. It reshapes how women move through the world, how they speak, and how safe they feel both online and offline.

Violence is not only physical. Emotional manipulation, financial control, digital harassment, cultural pressure, and sexual coercion are all forms of violence too. Women deserve safety. Enough of this!

Violence against women does not begin with a headline. It begins long before the moment a woman’s story becomes a statistic. It begins in the quiet, insidious spaces where society learns to see women as less deserving of safety, dignity, and autonomy. These lessons are reinforced daily through the stories we watch, the jokes we share, the songs we dance to, the gossip we trade, and the digital platforms that shape how we relate to each other. As we move through the 16 Days of Activism, it is impossible to talk about femicide and gender-based violence without talking about the cultural landscape that makes this harm feel ordinary.

How many more women must we lose before this country pays attention?
How many more names, headlines, vigils, and shattered families?
How many more times must we say, “She deserved to live”?

Women in Kenya are not safe! Not in their homes, not on the streets, not online, not in relationships, not even in places we are told should protect us. We refuse to normalise violence.

For 16 Days of Activism, we are calling it what it is: a crisis. A national emergency.
A pattern rooted in culture, silence, and power.

Join the movement. Raise your voice. Amplify the call.

To all the women, near and far, you make the world brighter every day.

You fight for other women. You believe being a woman is something to honour, celebrate, uplift.

Today, on , we say THANK YOU. But also… we say we celebrate you every day. Because being a woman isn’t just a weekly hashtag. It’s strength, kindness, hope, power, vulnerability, resilience.

To the African sisters, to the white-skinned friends, the brown, the Indian, the Muslim, the Christian — all of us, together ❤️

Let’s keep raising each other up. Let’s keep shining. Let’s keep believing that being a woman is something to treasure.

Tag a woman who inspires you. 🎀
