President William Ruto is set to unveil a new Kenya Police Service uniform on Friday as the government begins the nationwide rollout of the attire next week.

The new uniform marks a return to an earlier design after the current deep-blue attire faced opposition from police officers and members of the public during consultations held in 2023.

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has said officers will begin wearing the new uniform on Monday, August 31, with the change expected to be implemented across the country in the coming weeks.

Kanja says the move is intended to improve officers' morale and enhance service delivery, particularly among newly recruited officers.

The President will officially commission the uniform during the Kenya Police Service pass-out parade at the Kiganjo Police Training College in Nyeri County on Friday, August 28.

Kanja says the uniform was selected following consultations with officers and the public, adding that the National Police Service had decided to return to the previously agreed design.

The move also follows recommendations by a police reforms task force led by retired Chief Justice David Maraga. The task force proposed that the National Police Service revert to its former uniform for three years while a new design is developed.

The task force has cited complaints over the quality and supply of uniforms and noted concerns raised by members of the public, police officers, and the service's leadership.

The previous government replaced the long-standing police uniform with a redesigned version following the merger of the Kenya Police Service and the Administration Police. The change was intended to improve visibility and create greater uniformity across the service.

A Mombasa court has freed a clinical officer who had been accused of sexually assaulting a woman while she was receiving dialysis at Pandya Memorial Hospital, citing insufficient evidence to support a conviction.

Dias Juma Wabwile was facing r**e and an alternative indecent-act charge arising from an alleged encounter with the patient, identified as M.T.K., at about 5AM on January 31, 2025. He denied the allegations throughout the proceedings.

The prosecution's case was presented through eight witnesses, but a crucial piece of evidence was unavailable: the complainant herself. She died before the trial started and consequently never appeared in court to describe what happened or explain whether she had consented to the sexual encounter.

President William Ruto: The last series of elections were tough because of Baba. Now imagine right now ODM and UDA have joined hands to form the broad-based government. I really pity those in opposition dreaming of the Presidency in 2027.

Protests have erupted along Argwings Kodhek Road in Kilimani, Nairobi, on Tuesday, August 25, after county enforcement officers demolished temporary stalls along the busy road.

Footage from the scene shows the county officers pulling down the structures and making several arrests as the operation continues near Chaka Place.

Angry traders have responded by barricading the road with burning tyres, disrupting traffic and leaving motorists and motorcyclists stranded.

Police officers have been deployed to contain the situation and restore order.

The demolitions are part of Nairobi County’s ongoing crackdown on informal structures and unauthorized vending.

Kenya Airways has recorded a KSh16.1 billion loss after tax for the six months ended June 30, 2026, widening from the KSh12.2 billion loss recorded during a similar period last year.

The national carrier cites a sharp increase in fuel prices and broader operating costs, with geopolitical tensions in the Middle East contributing to higher jet-fuel expenses.

KQ says fuel accounted for about 32 percent of its total operating expenses and 52 percent of direct operating costs.

Despite the wider loss, the airline recorded 9 percent growth in revenue to about KSh81 billion, even as its capacity declined by 9 percent. KQ attributes the revenue growth to stronger aircraft utilization, improved cabin factor, and resilient demand across its network.

The airline has also continued to grapple with aircraft availability and maintenance challenges, with global shortages of spare parts and components affecting its fleet. These constraints have contributed to higher operating costs and limited the carrier's ability to fully meet passenger demand.

KQ says it is focusing on cost management, restoring fleet capacity, conserving cash, reducing leverage, and completing its capital-raising program as part of efforts to return the airline to a more stable financial position.

Jamaican sprint legend Usain Bolt has proposed to his longtime partner, Kasi Bennett, during celebrations to make his 40th birthday in Kingston, Jamaica.

Bolt, who turned 40 on August 21, popped the question at a birthday celebration at One Belmont, surrounded by family and close friends. Photos from the occasion show the eight-time Olympic champion getting down on one knee with a microphone in hand before embracing Bennett after she accepted the proposal.

Bolt reportedly presented Bennett with a five-carat diamond engagement ring. Images shared after the proposal show Bennett displaying the ring as the couple celebrated their engagement.

The proposal came after more than a decade together. Bolt and Bennett began dating in 2013 and have three children, daughter Olympia Lightning and twin sons Thunder and Saint Leo. Their relationship became publicly known internationally around the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Bolt remains one of the most decorated sprinters in history, having won eight Olympic gold medals and holding the men's 100M and 200M world records.
