Malawi's president, Lazarus Chakwera has conceded defeat to former president Peter Mutharika, acknowledging the will of the people and respecting the constitution. Mutharika took an overwhelming lead with more than 65% of valid votes cast in the September 16 election. A candidate needs 50% plus one vote to be declared the winner in Malawi. Chakwera’s concession came two hours before an official declaration of results by the country’s electoral commission.

A central location and cross point of traffic from and to all directions of Juba city as the venue to conduct the court proceedings against First Vice President and SPLM-IO leaders, is negatively impacting the economic, social, environmental, and security life of citizens of Juba as it is making it difficult to access places of work, business, and services; following blocking of key traffic crossing points. In addition, the University’s of Juba, both students and staff are unable to access the campus for teaching, working, or attending lectures or exams.

The judicial committee responsible for this decision should reconsider relocating the venue to peripheral locations of Juba such New Site or Luri, away from the centre of Juba city.

Dr. Machar’s Legal Team calls Nasir case a violation of cease-fire

Dr. Geri Raimondu, head of Dr. Riek Machar Teny’s legal team, has described the Nasir case as a violation of the ceasefire agreement between the two parties (The government and the SPLM-IO).

He stated that the matter should instead be investigated by the Ceasefire and Transitional Security Arrangements Monitoring Mechanism (CTSAMM), insisting that it is not an issue for the courts.

Meanwhile, Dr. Machar’s legal team continues to challenge both the competency and jurisdiction of the Special Court currently handling the case.
