According to the DCI, preliminary findings indicate that the accident involved Hon. Jirongo’s motor vehicle, registration number KCZ 305U, and a public service vehicle (PSV) bus, registration number KCU 576A, belonging to Climax Company Ltd.

The CCTV footage shows that at 2:18:40am, Hon Cyrus Jirongo drove into the petrol station from the Nairobi direction but did not refuel. At 2:19:10am, his vehicle stopped briefly at the station’s exit and at 2:19:19am, made a right turn back towards the Nairobi direction. Former Cabinet Minister and Lugari member of Parliament, Cyrus Jirongo, has passed away, with reports indicating that he died following a grisly road accident.

The crash is said to have occurred in the Karai area of Naivasha, along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway, involving his car and a 45-seater passenger bus, killing him on the spot.

The 64-year-old was a former Minister for Rural Development during Kenya’s second President, Daniel Moi’s administration between March 2002 and December of the same year.

He also served as Member of Parliament for Lugari Constituency between 1997 and 2002 and between 2007 and 2013.
