Back in 1997, I got my first Mcee gig, I had never really heard myself through a microphone in a hall full of people. The echo 🙆🏾‍♀️, the sound of my own voice bouncing back… it got awkward really fast and believe it or not I was shaking inside. 😅

But with time — and a bit of coaching from my then boss who taught me the power of owning my microphone — I began to understand the power of listening to myself.

I started recording my voice whenever I could just for me to listen back to myself. At first, it was uncomfortable, but soon, I learned to recognize how my tone, volume, and tempo affected how people received me.

That’s when I discovered the real secret to public speaking — it’s not about being loud; it’s about being intentional.

Projection, not shouting. Confidence, not performance.

So, if you’re just starting out, here’s my advice:
💡 Record. Review. Refine.

Get used to how you sound — that’s where growth begins.
