Exciting news! The Northern Mozambique Channel Region has just been recognized as a UN World Restoration Flagship — congratulations!

A powerful example of the movement, this region - home to 35% of Indian Ocean coral reefs - is being restored through a massive effort spanning land and sea.

Together with WWF and partners, The Comoros, Madagascar, Mozambique and Tanzania are working together to revive 4.85 million hectares and uplift their communities.

The ocean shields coasts, sustains biodiversity, and feeds billions.

While leaders pledged to protect 30% of the ocean by 2030 under the Global Biodiversity Framework, only 8.4% is protected today.

To achieve this goal, we need to move from with bold policies, funding, and real protection for people and planet:

Our ocean is in urgent need of support.

Warming and acidifying waters, plastic pollution, and damaged ecosystems are putting marine life and coastal communities at risk.

Yet, humanity’s survival depends on a healthy ocean. As the planet’s blue lungs, our ocean is essential for all life on Earth. It’s a major source of food and medicine, it regulates our climate, and is a crucial part of the water cycle, supporting millions of livelihoods worldwide.

Protecting the ocean isn’t just about saving marine life—it’s about safeguarding our future. On and every day, we must ramp up efforts to before its health reaches a breaking point. The time to act is now.

The ocean… 🌊💙
sustains life,
regulates climate,
nurtures biodiversity,
feeds millions,
buffers storms,
produces oxygen,
holds untold wonder.

The ocean supports humanity in countless ways, and when the ocean suffers, so do we. Instead of protecting it, we’ve polluted its depths and pushed it to the brink.

This and every day, let’s stop taking the ocean for granted, start acting to and sustain what sustains us.
