One in three people on the planet is under 20 years old. Our actions now will affect their future.

Given the long-term impacts of waste on the environment, ecosystems, and human health, it is essential that youth participate in waste management discussions.

12 August is .

Native to Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia, elephants play a vital role in keeping ecosystems and savannahs healthy. They help plants germinate by passing seeds through their digestive system, supporting growth and countless other essential ecosystem functions.

Sadly, they face serious threats from poaching, driven by the demand for ivory. Every ivory purchase fuels the illegal killing of these magnificent animals.

Help ensure elephants continue to thrive in the wild:
Avoid buying products made from ivory.
Spread the word about the threats elephants face and why protecting them and their habitats is essential.
Take time to learn more about the illegal wildlife trade and how to stop it.

Indigenous Peoples make up less than 5% of the world’s population, yet they protect a significant amount of global biodiversity. Despite their critical role in safeguarding our planet, they remain among the most vulnerable—comprising 15% of the world’s poorest due to systemic marginalization.

In the age of AI, digital progress must not come at the cost of Indigenous rights. From the misuse of Indigenous data in AI systems to the environmental toll of data centers on sacred lands, the risks are real.

Yet Indigenous communities are not just victims—they are innovators. From using AI to preserve endangered languages to blending traditional knowledge with machine learning for climate resilience, Indigenous Peoples are shaping a future where technology empowers rather than exploits.

On this , discover how Indigenous voices are being amplified in the age of AI with United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA): https://social.desa.un.org/issues/indigenous-peoples/events/IDWIP-2025

A massive 8.8 earthquake off eastern Russia prompted tsunami alerts across the Pacific. Within an hour, waves reached Japan, over 1,000km away.

Alerts were sent out within a few minutes for communities to take shelter. While the tsunami warning was downgraded, this event still serves as a stark reminder of why early warning systems save lives.
