THE IMPEACHMENT VOTE

Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo was impeached by the Nyamira County Assembly on 25 November 2025 through a motion moved by Julius Matwere (MCA, Bonyamatuta Ward).

The Assembly announced that 23 MCAs had voted in favour of the motion.
However, only 19 MCAs were physically present in the chamber at the time of voting.

To reach the declared 23 votes, Speaker Thadeus Nyabaro allowed “proxy voting”, where 6 present MCAs cast votes on behalf of absent colleagues.

The Assembly further argued that its “effective membership” was 32, owing to three vacant seats, and therefore 23 votes met the two-thirds threshold.
