At the Keringet Under-20 holiday camp in Kuresoi, Nakuru County, young athletes continue their rigorous training under the guidance of coaches Emmy Chepkirui, W***y Lang’at, and Charles Ng’eno.

Despite the heavy rains, the athletes have maintained their commitment, showcasing resilience and discipline. Keringet, the home village of double Olympic champion Faith Kipyegon, has long been a cradle of running talent, and the camp is determined to uphold that legacy.

Coach Emmy, a former athlete who has now transitioned into mentorship, expressed gratitude to NOCK vice president Barnabas Kori for supporting the program: “If this program continues, champions will rise again and the image of South Rift will be restored soon. The camp has good management, and that’s what keeps us prospering.”

Congratulations to Alicia Khunou from South Africa. Fresh from her outstanding double gold in shot put and discus at the recent CAA Championships in Abeokuta, Nigeria, Alicia’s star continues to rise.

Adding to her triumphs on the field, she has also secured admission and visa approval to the prestigious University of Oregon, a huge milestone on her journey toward LA 2028.

From Morocco’s Salma Sadoug, to Tanzania’s Elizabeth Ilanda, and now South Africa’s Alicia Khunou, Town Hall Athletics is truly shaping into an African powerhouse, bridging the gap between education and sport.

From Kenya to Nigeria, with strides in Tanzania, Morocco, South Africa, and soon Zambia, the journey keeps growing stronger.

Congratulations once again, Alicia—Go Town Hall Strong.

Today, Athletics Kenya Youth Development Director Barnaba Korir delivered a heartfelt message to Kenya’s junior athletes returning from the CAA Championships in Abeokuta, Nigeria. Applauding their brilliant performance, he reminded them that the journey has just begun—urging discipline, focus, and caution.

“I congratulate you for making Kenya proud. But remember, it’s not just about medals—blend your athletics with education,” Korir said. He warned against signing contracts without proper guidance: “Don’t let anyone make decisions for you. Think for yourself. Protect your future.”

Looking ahead to the August holiday camps, Korir added, "We will ensure the camps are well organized and only open to eligible U20 athletes. Your welfare matters to us." He also gave a stern warning on doping: "If Kenya is banned, we all suffer. Say no to shortcuts. Say yes to clean sport."

Lemotit Athletics Club coach Paul Kemei has applauded Athletics Kenya, especially the Youth Development Office under Barnaba Korir and the Youth Committee, for their continued investment in youth camps — a move he says has played a vital role in producing medal-winning junior athletes.

At the recently concluded 3rd CAA Africa U18/U20 Championships in Abeokuta, Nigeria, six athletes from the Lemotit camp proudly represented Kenya, bagging multiple medals:

🥇 Anatasha Cheptoo Langat – Gold, 3000m Steeplechase (Women U20)
🥇 Cynthia Chepkurui – Gold, 3000m Flat (Girls U18)
🥉 Sharon Chepkemoi – Bronze, 3000m Steeplechase & 5000m (Women U20)
🥉 Mercy Chepngeno Mageso – Bronze, 2000m Steeplechase (Girls U18)
🏅 Vivian Cherotich – 4th, 1500m (Women U20)
🏅 Miriam Chemutai Kibet – 6th, 3000m (Women U20)

“These camps are transforming lives and producing medals. We’ve seen the results,” said Kemei.

He further urged Athletics Kenya to allocate funds for the August holiday camps to help prepare young athletes for the upcoming cross country series and the Junior Olympics.

Let’s invest in the future—because Kenya’s next generation of champions is already here!

AK President Gen. (Rtd) Jackson Tuwei has confirmed that Team Kenya will begin final preparations for the World Championships in Tokyo at Kipchoge Stadium, Eldoret, due to stadium unavailability in Nairobi.

"After CHAN, the team will head back before flying out to Tokyo," he said.

But that’s not all— Kenya has officially bid to host the World Championships in 2029 or 2031.

"We’ve formed a strong team under Ibrahim Hussein, and we’re also sending another to study how global events are managed so we can meet hosting standards,” Tuwei revealed.

For now, it's all systems go—final paperwork and training are underway.
Let’s rally behind our champions as they chase glory in Tokyo... and maybe bring the world home in 2029 or 2031.

When the dust settled at Nigeria’s OMK Stadium in Abeokuta, six young runners from the highland-based Lemotit Athletics Club in Kericho County had flown Kenya’s flag high — signaling not only a new generation of champions but also the fruits of structured grassroots investment.

Coached by trainer Paul Kemei, the athletes left the CAA Africa U18/U20 Athletics Championships with a medal tally and performances that have set the stage for global ambitions.

Lemotit’s standout moments included a gold-bronze sweep in the 3000m steeplechase U20 as Anatasha Cheptoo Langat surged to gold, followed closely by her teammate Sharon Chepkemoi, who took bronze.

In the 3000m flat U18, Cynthia Chepkurui stamped her authority to claim gold, while Mercy Chepngeno Mageso brought home a bronze in the 2000m steeplechase U18, extending Lemotit’s medal dominance in distance events.

Outside the podium, two other club athletes — Vivian Cherotich (4th in 1500m U20) and Miriam Chemutai Kibet (6th in 3000m U20) — delivered strong performances, showing the club’s bench strength and development depth.

Speaking to Eagle Sports over the phone from Abeokuta, Nigeria, Coach Paul Kemei, a long-serving figure in Kenyan athletics, praised his athletes’ efforts and credited the Athletics Kenya youth development program, led by Barnaba Korir, for providing the framework to nurture such talent.

“Thanks to the support from Barnaba Korir and AK’s youth development initiative, we’ve been able to mould these talents from the grassroots. These results are not by chance — they are a reflection of consistent mentorship, structure, and hard work,” Kemei said.

He added that the Abeokuta success is just the beginning. With major events like the World Cross Country Championships, the Youth Olympic Games, and the 2028 Olympics on the horizon, Kemei says his focus now shifts to sharpening and refining the raw talent his athletes have displayed.

“When Anatasha ran 9:27 in the steeplechase — just nine seconds shy of the Olympic qualifying mark of 9:18 — it proved that we are close. With a bit more polish, she and others can break into the global elite,” he said.

Lemotit Athletics Club, based in the athletics-rich highlands of Kericho County, is one of over 55 AK-endorsed junior camps across the country. But what sets it apart is the consistency in delivering athletes ready to challenge Africa — and soon, the world.
