eKitabu Accessible digital content for inclusive and quality education

For eKitabu (“Kitabu” is Swahili for “book,” Kitab or کتاب in Arabic, Kitab or कताब in Hindi), the educational impact of books is our foundation, and on that proven foundation we innovate—to lower the cost of books for education and increase access to them—sustainably and at large scale. eKitabu, through our open architecture, global repository of ebooks, and ecosystem partners, dramatically lowers the cost of delivering books for education in local and international languages. To date we have brought digital content to over 900 schools across Sub-Saharan Africa: Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, and Ghana. eKitabu has over 500,000 titles collected from educational publishers worldwide including books in Swahili, Arabic, Kinyarwanda and others approved for national curricula, with a growing list of languages and titles that scales to support new projects and countries where we work. The e-library is accessible globally and built to meet the highest standards for storage, security, delivery, and reporting for content creators—from independent local authors to the world’s largest publishers.

Kenyan learners now have a brand-new platform to express themselves in indigenous languages through Our Digital Essay Competition! Under this year’s theme, “Let me speak,” over 200 students submitted entries tackling critical, sensitive topics—from bullying to exam malpractice.

📚 Record-breaking talent! Over 24,900 Kenyan students stepped up to share their voices in eKitabu’s 14th Digital Essay Competition—the biggest edition yet! ✍️✨

Responding to this year’s prompt, “Let Me Speak,” young writers across the country tackled tough topics, showcased incredible writing quality, and even debuted over 200 entries in the new Mother Tongue category.

🏆 Winners will be announced on September 25 at the Nairobi International Book Fair. Huge congratulations to all the brilliant participants making their voices heard! 🇰🇪
