Nairobi Intensifies Citywide Clean-Up Drive Under “Safisha KaNairo” Campaign
Nairobi County has intensified its citywide clean-up campaign dubbed “Safisha KaNairo” in a renewed effort to tackle mounting waste challenges and improve sanitation across the capital.
The campaign, being carried out in partnership with Zoomlion Kenya and other sanitation stakeholders, targets major residential estates, informal settlements, markets, and public spaces that have experienced persistent waste accumulation.
County officials say the ongoing intervention is an urgent and coordinated response aimed at restoring environmental dignity, improving public health, and promoting sustainable urban cleanliness within the city.
Several areas have already been earmarked for large-scale waste evacuation and environmental restoration exercises. The targeted zones include Borabora and Kawangware-Gitanga in Dagoretti North, Morale Road and Kinyango in Kamukunji, CBD Market in Starehe, Githwamba and St. Francis in Kasarani, Vumilia in Embakasi East, Othaya Market and Kamukunji Grounds in Kibra, as well as Area 1, Korogocho Market, and Ngomongo in Ruaraka.
Other ongoing operations are taking place in Mathare, particularly at Huruma Grounds, Mau Mau, and Huruma Flats, where county teams have intensified garbage collection and sanitation efforts.
Officials noted that the exercise is part of broader plans to improve environmental management and reduce health risks associated with illegal dumping and poor waste disposal practices.
As part of the public awareness campaign, media houses, bloggers, influencers, and environmental advocates have been encouraged to use hashtags including , , and to promote civic responsibility and public participation.
Residents have also been urged to support the initiative by avoiding illegal dumping and taking part in local clean-up activities.
Environmental stakeholders are now calling for long-term recycling and waste-to-value solutions, while youth groups have been encouraged to participate in environmental programs that can create both cleaner neighbourhoods and economic opportunities.
