TAXI DRIVERS CONCERNS ON BUSINESS MODEL

Mobile based ride hailing cabs have made movement easier and created thousands of jobs in the process. However, it appears that cab drivers could be going through hard times due to unfair labour practices, low pay and slim margins which seem to be making their business unprofitable. The recent strike by the drivers is an indication that all is not well in mobile app ride hailing sector.

It is on this grounds that I have requested a statement from the Standing Committee on Labour and Social Welfare regarding the grievances the drivers have brought out. These include punitive margins, skewed profit sharing agreements and exploitation. This should be a step in helping improve working conditions and ensuring that their work is fairly compensated.
