Earlier today, I made a post to the reference that United States leaving the UN-Habitat won't affect the organisation and in fact the impact won't be felt. I also said it won't affect the running operations of UN-Habitat Headquarters in Nairobi. Many ignorant brethren especially from my Kerio Valley backyard called me mijinga and that I knew nothing.
I have decided to elaborate for the sake of my brothers and sisters who insulted me and said Mimi ni kumbafu.
A quick check from the Habitats stats on their web, published stats for 2024, The United States is a MINOR CONTRIBUTOR to UN-Habitat's funds. TOP DONORS ARE the Netherlands and Japan.
As of late 2024, the U.S. contributed only $1.04 million, ranking below the Netherlands WHO DONATED $26.34 million and Japan who donated $17.13 million. USA almost has no role to play in UN-Habitat
The TOTAL 2025 ANNUAL BUDGET FOR THE UN-HABITAT was $177.3million (ksh22.8billion)
Now minus the United States' mere $1.04million contribution, do you see UN-Habitat falling because USA has left?
USA is a lazy member of the UN-Habitat and their leaving won't affect the status of the Habitat.
The Habitat is largely a Creation of Asian countries and mostly Europe.
USA even withdrew from the Paris Climate Agreement and the world felt nothing.
