Remembering John maina aka Gor Maina
In 2008 I was attached to maumau sounds and Madbeatz entertainment. Achievers was winding up and a new proprietor was taking up the space for a night club (carribean grill). The proprietor was known to maumau sounds and Madbeatz who agreed to allow us run reggae nights. We ran reggae nights on Wednesday through Monday morning. Our fan base was not as big compared to black supremacy which was the leading sound then. At the time, black supremacy was looking for a venue for their reggae nights. We had a good venue with a small fan base while supremacy had a small venue with huge fan base. So we cut a deal with them to join. Under the agreement, black supremacy moved to carribean grill. That is when I met fullstop John maina the baddest mic chanter I know. He used to play the Sunday afternoon jam session along side simple Simon if you never attended the carribean grill jam sessions, it was crazy that was the time dancehall was taking over (gaza/gully). Then immediately after the jam session, it was time for the Sunday reggae nights. He was the mc along side ronnieboy and tsunami and it was another unforgettable experience. The energy and creativity this man brought on the mic cant be matched. What a time we had at carribean grill nights though it was short lived as after a while the club was eventually bought and converted into a restaurant.
