Three months after Bishop Osรณrio Citora Afonso,IMC was shot dead in his own residence, Mozambique's bishops are still asking: who did this, and why?

At the close of their Extraordinary Plenary Assembly, the Episcopal Conference of Mozambique renewed its call for truth and justice, saying key questions about the killing remain unanswered โ€” and that the wound will not heal without them.

The bishops also named two prelates to support Bishop Estรชvรฃo ร‚ngelo Fernando, now leading the Diocese of Quelimane, and called the faithful to renewed prayer and reflection in the face of this tragedy.

KENYA: Catholics at Resurrection Garden marked 23 years since the death of the Servant of God, Maurice Michael Cardinal Otunga, with Church leaders renewing calls to advance his cause for sainthood.

Archbishop Philip Anyolo led the memorial Mass, joined by Bishop Alfred Rotich of Kericho, John Cardinal Njue, priests and Cardinal Otunga's family.

Bishop Rotich, in his homily, remembered a cardinal who "suffered in silence," and challenged Kenya's leaders to serve rather than exploit the people.

Fr Lawrence Njoroge, Vice Postulator of the cause, confirmed Archbishop Anyolo continues to follow up with Rome's Dicastery for the Causes of Saints.

Nigeria's Catholic bishops stood beside their muslim neighbours this week - praying for the safe release of over 60 Muslim worshippers abducted from a mosque in Borgu, Niger State, even as they mourn 47 people killed in a separate attack in Ukum, Benue State.

"An attack on any place of worship is an attack on our collective humanity," the CBCN said, warning that Nigeria's security crisis has reached an "intolerable crest."
Quoting Genesis 4:10, the bishops declared: "The blood of your brother cries out to me from the ground."

Pope Leo XIV has appealed to the international community to help stop the deadly Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo, which has claimed more than 2,500 lives. Speaking at Sunday's Angelus, he also prayed for the victims of a mining collapse in the Central African Republic that killed over 100 people.

The Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops has launched its Strategic Plan 2026โ€“2035, built around six pastoral pillars: Evangelisation and Faith Formation, the Family and the Sanctity of Life, Youth for Mission, Justice, Peace and Integral Human Development, Communion, Governance and Synodality, and Stewardship for Sustainability.

KCCB Chairman Most Rev. Maurice Muhatia Makumba said the plan is meant to strengthen the bishops' evangelising mission over the next decade.

Catholic communicators from more than 100 countries have gathered in Kigali, Rwanda, for the first-ever SIGNIS World Congress held on African soil โ€” under the theme "Digital Communication for Cultural Harmony and Environmental Wellbeing."

The week-long Congress (August 3โ€“8) opened with Holy Mass at St Michael's Cathedral, presided over by Cardinal Antoine Kambanda, and brings together journalists, broadcasters, filmmakers and digital communicators to reflect on AI, media ethics and the Church's mission in the digital age.

Delegates also elected a new SIGNIS Africa continental board during the Assembly.
