Muhoroni Youth has reportedly intercepted a group of their players who were allegedly involved in plans to manipulate their upcoming National Super League match against Kibera Black Stars.
According to sources within the club, the incident occurred on Thursday afternoon around 3 PM.
It is alleged that the team’s first-choice goalkeeper, who was aware he would not feature in the match, introduced the second-choice goalkeeper to an individual described as an "investor" in Nairobi.
Reports further claim that the goalkeeper (2nd) then allegedly involved three defenders in the suspected scheme, with a fourth defender contacted via phone.
The players allegedly proceeded to the club’s residence, where negotiations were said to have taken place over the phone with the so-called investor.
It was during this engagement that the club’s administrators reportedly intervened and confronted the group inside their room, which had been locked.
Two players , a goalkeeper and a defender, managed to escape during the process.
Unofficial reports indicate that the players were allegedly promised Ksh 500,000 to ensure over 3.5 goals were scored in the match.
Furthermore, any player responsible for conceding a penalty was allegedly set to receive Ksh 40,000, while any defender who managed to convince the rebel defender to join the scheme was to pocket Ksh 100,000.
It is also alleged that a well-organized syndicate has already influenced nine of Muhoroni Youth’s matches this season.
Four of these are claimed to have occurred under the tenure of head coach Phelix Ogutu, whose growing suspicions are said to have prompted the club’s internal investigations.
As of now, the second-choice goalkeeper has reportedly been taken into custody and is being held at Koru Police Station pending further investigations.
The club and relevant authorities have yet to issue official statements regarding the allegations.
