The Inside Story is officially here.

Our investigative documentary series makes its debut on YouTube with our very first episode exploring the story of Sheikh Makaburi.

Accused of financing and facilitating the movement of young men to Somalia, where they allegedly received militant training, Makaburi became one of the most controversial religious figures in Kenya’s recent history.

But what is the full story behind the headlines?

In this episode, we go beyond the allegations to examine his influence, the accusations against him, and the events that shaped his controversial legacy.

HOW BACHELORS OF NAMBALE WERE TRICKED INTO TESTING FOR HIV/AIDS WITH PROMISES OF WOMEN FROM UKAMBANI

It appears Kenyans love freebies as exemplified by reports in recent years of stampedes at stadia when entry for events is free, pushing and jumping the queues at relief food distribution centres and shoving each other in the face during promotional events as the public scramble for free t- shirts and caps...

So what happens when the public is invited or believe they have been invited for a ceremony where free wives would be dished out alongside free maize and cash handouts?

For Nambale residents there might have been no stampede following that announcement but the claimed point of distribution of the free wives was nonetheless a crowded zone on Sunday as men rushed to receive the-soon-to-be-distributed wives from the Ukambani region.

And as Judy Kosgei reports, the fact that all that turned out to be a hoax left a bitter aftertaste in the mouths of the men there.
