Florida Mom Arrested After Allegedly Beating Son With Broom, Fork Over Unfinished Chores

A Miami-Dade mother is behind bars after allegedly attacking her teenage son with a broomstick, a fork, and cleaning chemicals during a confrontation over unfinished household chores, according to police.

Maria Carla Rodriguez, 37, was arrested Monday night following the alleged incident at the family’s home in the Miami area, the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office confirmed.

According to an arrest report obtained by Local10, Rodriguez woke her son around 9:20 p.m. after discovering he had not completed his assigned chores. She allegedly ordered him into the kitchen to wash dishes, where the situation quickly escalated.

Police say the teen accidentally dropped a fork during the argument. Investigators allege Rodriguez picked it up and threw it toward his head, though the boy managed to dodge the utensil. Authorities further claim she then grabbed a broomstick and struck him multiple times on the arms and chest, causing visible bruising.

The report states that Rodriguez later sent her son into the bathroom to clean the toilet. While there, she allegedly sprayed a cleaning product directly into his face, leaving his eyes red and swollen.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they observed multiple bruises on the teen’s body and irritation to his eyes, consistent with the allegations outlined in the report.

Rodriguez denied assaulting her son, telling officers that the two had only argued about chores and his time spent with friends. She claimed she did not know how the injuries occurred.

Rodriguez was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. She remains in custody at the Miami-Dade County Jail, with bond yet to be set.

The investigation is ongoing.

Target Employee Berated Over “Freedom” Shirt Sparks Backlash — Fundraiser Surpasses $175K After Viral Video

A viral confrontation inside a Target store in Chico, California, has triggered widespread backlash — and an outpouring of public support — after an elderly Target employee was verbally attacked for wearing a “Freedom” T-shirt while on the job.

The incident unfolded on Monday when TikToker Michelea Ponce recorded herself confronting the employee, later identified online as Jeanie Beeman, as she quietly stocked merchandise. In the video — which quickly spread across TikTok and X, racking up millions of views — Ponce can be heard shouting profanities and accusing the worker of supporting racism based solely on the message printed on her shirt.

Throughout the exchange, Beeman remained calm and professional.

“I’m sorry, but I’m not going to engage in an argument with you. Have a nice day,” she said before walking away.

As the video gained traction, public sentiment turned sharply against the woman who filmed the encounter. Ponce soon deleted her social media accounts after widespread criticism. She was later identified online as an Enloe Health nurse, prompting the hospital to issue a statement confirming that Chico police are investigating the incident after receiving a surge of calls related to the video.

The Chico Police Department confirmed it is “actively investigating the incident with local partners,” though no charges have been announced at this time.

In response to the viral confrontation, supporters launched a GiveSendGo fundraiser for Beeman, describing her as a hardworking Target employee who was unfairly targeted while simply doing her job. The campaign originally aimed to raise $100,000 to fund a vacation, but donations poured in so rapidly that organizers increased the goal to $200,000.

As of the latest update, the fundraiser has surpassed $175,000 in donations.

“This was a moment where kindness, dignity, and restraint spoke louder than rage,” organizers wrote, calling the encounter “unprovoked” and “deeply inappropriate.”

The incident has reignited a national conversation about free expression, workplace attire, and the ethics of filming and publicly shaming service workers — particularly in an era where viral videos can instantly change lives.

Target has not issued a public statement regarding the incident.

Child who smashed mom’s car window with rocks apologizes after foster care placement. Now allegedly abused with bruises, black eyes & cuts. 👀😳 - A Mother’s Fight to Bring Her Son Home Sparks Debate Over Foster Care Safety

A heartbreaking case gaining traction on social media has ignited serious concerns about the foster care system and the safety of children placed within it. A mother is now fighting to regain custody of her young son after he was taken into foster care following a behavioral incident in which he threw rocks and broke her car window.

Since entering foster care, the child has allegedly suffered physical abuse, including bruises, black eyes, and cuts—claims that have intensified public outrage and concern. What was meant to be a protective intervention has instead raised troubling questions about whether the system is truly safeguarding vulnerable children.

The mother has voiced deep frustration with the Department of Health and Human Services (DHS), stating that her son is not safe in his current placement. Her story reflects a broader issue faced by many families: children removed from their homes due to behavioral challenges often encounter new trauma rather than the support they need to heal.

Data surrounding the foster care system adds to these concerns. Studies show that less than half of children in foster care are successfully reunited with their biological families, and many reenter the system within five years. In many cases, unresolved emotional and behavioral issues remain unaddressed, perpetuating a painful cycle.

The emotional weight of this situation became even more evident in a widely shared video showing the child apologizing and expressing love for his mother. His words serve as a powerful reminder that behind every case file is a child longing for safety, connection, and stability.

This case also reinforces the critical importance of maintaining family bonds. Research consistently shows that children who maintain regular contact with their biological parents often experience better mental health outcomes and shorter foster care stays.

As this story continues to unfold, it raises an urgent question: Is the foster care system truly protecting children—or failing the very families it was designed to help?
