These three are some of the steps you can make towards laying your baby's healthy sleep foundation.
Hello mama.
πŸ“ Research has shown that babies take up to 10 mins to transition to the next cycle of sleep (resettling). Be patient mama, they will never learn how to do it unless they get the chance to try.

πŸ“If you wait the 5-10 minutes and they don't fall back to sleep, pick them up and feed. But make sure they don't fall asleep while feeding and if they do wake them up just a little bit and put them back in bed awake. This will help minimise feeding to sleep association otherwise they will always wake up after every sleep cycle needing the feeding to go back to sleep even when they are not hungry.

πŸ“Let them lead you with the night feeding schedule. Please don't wake them up at night.
If you are working on your baby's weight gain or establishing breast milk supply or they are ill, kindly wake them up as advised by the doctor.

Hello mama.
My name is Harriet founder of baby sleep coach and mama of 3.

As an experienced baby sleep expert,I can tell you without hesitation that an overtired baby will not sleep well and longer.
πŸ“They will most probably wake up every 1h/2hrs overnight and always wake up at 4-6 am every morning.

Their brains will produce the cortisol hormone (stress hormone) that will make it difficult to fall asleep or stay asleep.

πŸ“Always consider your younger babies age appropriate wake windows and honoring toddlers schedule and routine.

Hello mama.
My name is Harriet baby sleep coach and mama of 3.
πŸ“There might be a little bit of similarity between an overtired and undertired baby. But...
An undertired baby will not sleep or will not look sleepy when you expect them to sleep.

πŸ“An overtired baby will want to sleep but may only accept to be held to sleep waking almost every hour and always unsettled from 3am to 7 am( spending most time in light sleep phase for even 5hrs )

Feeding habits to improve sleep πŸ‘‡πŸΌ
Hello mama.
My name is Harriet founder of baby sleep coach and mama of 3.
4️⃣ Avoid feeding to sleep or baby getting drowsy while feeding
Baby will associate or link that feeding and sleep causing short boats of sleep to feed again to sleep.
Or
They will constantly have short naps due to a reduction of sleep pressure while feeding.

5️⃣ Don't feed every night wakings.
Always try to resettle baby without a feed to reduce calorie intake at night which will cause multiple night wakings and feed more at night.

πŸ“ Adopt the routine of Wake,Feed,Play,Feed,Play and finally sleep. This ensures full feedings especially for babies that are exclusively breastfed.

πŸ“Give both front and Hinde milk.
Giving feedings that are active and full( both breasts) this will make sure that baby doesn't only take fore milk but also Hinde milk that has high -fat milk.

πŸ“ Delaying the first feeding in the morning (15-30m) will help avoid early morning wakes, encourage active feed since baby will be awake and alert.
This will also help baby know the difference between that feeding and the rest of the night feedings.

Ideal bedtime πŸ‘‡πŸΌ
Hello mama
My name is Harriet founder of baby sleep coach and mama of 3.
πŸ“ Here's what am trying to tell, there is no specific bedtime. You can however have a consistent bedtime from 7 M +,only if you start your day at the same time every morning, nap at the same time, your baby's sleep should be consolidated and taking naps as expected ( not short naps).

πŸ“For babies younger. Follow their age appropriate wake windows and adjust bedtime, early or later depending on how good or bad they napped during the day.

Consistent early morning wakes?πŸ‘‡πŸΌ
Hello mama
My name is Harriet founder of baby sleep coach and mama of 3.

πŸ“Did you know that very few babies can sleep for 12 hrs overnight?
The majority sleep for 10-11 hrs total.
If you have tried everything and baby is still waking up early, try looking at the time they go down for bedtime.

Hello mama.
My name is Harriet baby sleep expert and mama of 3.
πŸ“ We need a predictable bedtime,to achieve that we need to start the day at the same time everyday.
We also need sleep pressure. They need to feel tired in order to fall asleep. This means that awake time towards bedtime is going to be longer than the rest of the wake windows for babies taking 2 naps a day.
For babies taking 3 naps and the last one being 30 mins, their awake time will be short or just the same because 30 mins nap did not reduce sleep pressure that much.

πŸ“ Consider giving the last feed of the day 30 mins before the actual bedtime. To avoid drowsiness and to also help disassociate feedings to sleep.

Don't forget to save and share with a mom.

Hi mama ❀️
My name is Harriet baby sleep expert, founder of baby sleep coach and mama of 3.
πŸ“ As a new mom to my third baby,I worked really hard not to nurse baby to sleep.
It wasn't always successful, but I would let my baby fall asleep on me or I would assist him fall asleep on his cot.
We never had to sleep train to break the feeding to sleep association or pattern and he slept longer stretches at night.

πŸ“It wasn't easy but worth it.
That is why as a sleep coach and trainer I help newborn moms lay a healthy sleep foundation from when the baby is still young.

Sleeping through the night πŸ‘‡πŸΌ
Hello mama
My name is Harriet founder of baby sleep coach and mama of 3.

πŸ“ Avoid reverse cycling. This is feeding more at night losing interest during the day. This way sleeping long stretches or through the night is impossible. So don't feed the baby every night waking.
1.Learn other ways to settle baby back to sleep other than feeding.
2. Feed as often as possible during the day,not snacking but effective full feedings.

πŸ“ Have your baby's age appropriate schedule so that they are not napping too much during the day exceeding their total sleep within 24 hrs.
Or they are not sleeping enough causing the baby to become overtired.

πŸ“That last feeding towards bedtime could be confusing baby as they may still associate it to sleep if it's given right before being set down in bed.
βœ…Have an activity or two between the feeding and sleep. The same to daytime feeds.

πŸ“Teach your baby self settling skills. It's not always easy for every mom and baby. Be patient and consistent.

πŸ“ Don't expect your newborn baby to sleep through the night, they still need to feed every 3 hrs to grow and establish your milk supply.

There is no other way to have your baby sleep through the night except for these.
