Charity Waweru: I know I don’t owe anyone an explanation, but I want to be clear. The video I made was not a celebration of Baba’s passing. I was reacting to what I believe is the collapse of the broad-based political arrangement that followed the handshake between Raila Amolo Odinga and President William Ruto.

Many young people have strong emotions tied to that moment because of the lives lost during protests and demonstrations. For a lot of us, it felt like that handshake changed the course of accountability in this country. Our reaction was political; not personal, and certainly not a celebration of death.

We believe Raila saved Ruto through that handshake. That is the political frustration many young people carry.

I support Edwin W. Sifuna because, even during that time, he stood with the people.

Ruth Odinga Opposed Sifuna’s Removal

A tense day unfolded in Mombasa as Ruth Odinga stood among a small group of four NEC members who resisted the decision to oust Edwin Sifuna from his position.

According to reporting by The Star, Vice Chair Otiende Amollo, Treasurer Timothy Bosire, Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga, and another member identified as Mike cast the only votes opposing the move. When the matter was put to a vote, 25 NEC members supported Sifuna’s removal, leaving the four in the minority.

Sources indicated that the dissenting members had pushed for Sifuna to be given an opportunity to respond before any action was taken. Their appeal was rejected, and Odinga was reportedly shouted down as she attempted to argue for due process.
