1. Early Life and Birth (1973)
Katoo Ole Metito was born in 1973 in Kajiado South, Loitokitok area — a region steeped in Maasai heritage. Raised in a pastoralist family, his childhood was anchored in discipline, cultural pride, and a deep sense of communal responsibility. Even while herding cattle, young Katoo had an unusual determination to pursue education — a rare ambition in the remote and rugged terrain of Kajiado at the time.
2. Primary and Secondary Education
He began his education at Ilbissil Primary School before advancing to the prestigious Lenana School in Nairobi. At Lenana, Katoo stood out for his calm personality, academic excellence, and early leadership qualities that set him apart from his peers.
3. University Education and Doctoral Studies
After high school, Katoo joined the University of Nairobi to study Natural Resource Management — a field closely tied to the environmental challenges affecting his home region. His choice of course reflected a deep-rooted commitment to sustainable development.
He later earned a Doctorate (PhD) in a related field, making him one of the most academically distinguished leaders among the Maasai. His academic success not only elevated his credibility in public leadership but also became a beacon of hope and inspiration to pastoralist youth across Kenya.
4. Entry into Politics and Public Administration (2002–2005)
Katoo’s political journey began in 2002 when he was elected Member of Parliament for Kajiado South on a NARC ticket. Just three years later, in 2005, he was appointed Assistant Minister for Youth Affairs, where he played a key role in formulating youth-focused national policies on employment, vocational training, and empowerment. His leadership style was marked by humility, inclusiveness, and grassroots engagement.
