Today we launched something the coast has needed for a long time.
The Mombasa Media and Communication Awards MAC Awards 2026 was officially introduced this morning at a media breakfast at , in partnership with the Mombasa Press Club .
This is the vision of our Co-Founder, Gilbert Were , for a dedicated regional platform that recognises and rewards excellence in journalism and communication across coastal Kenya. Journalism covering governance, climate, the blue economy and human rights. Digital and communication work that moves the needle. Stories that deserve to be celebrated, not just published.
We were deeply honoured to have the Governor of Mombasa County, H.E Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir present to officially launch the MAC Awards website and lead the unveiling of the award categories. Alongside him, we were joined by Mudi Coast Regional Coordinator, Council of Kenya , who spoke on how these awards will critically complement the national Annual Journalism Excellence Awards (AJEA) by elevating local storytelling.
Leaders who understand exactly why this ecosystem matters anchored the room including Hon. Mohamed Machele (MP, Mvita), Hon. Badi Twalib (MP, Jomvu), Mwanaisha Chidzuga (Assistant Government Spokeswoman) and Abud Jamal (Chairman, Mombasa Chapter . Their presence at a regional media recognition event says something about where this coast is heading.
With the official website now live, the journey to the Grand Awards Gala later this year has officially begun.
Thank you to for providing the venue and breakfast, and to the Mombasa Press Club for anchoring the coastal media fraternity behind this initiative.
We are now open for corporate partnerships Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze tiers, plus category, venue, media and technology sponsorships.
If your brand believes in ethical reporting, public impact and investing in the next generation of coastal media talent, this is your platform.
