Hillside Endarasha Families Seek Justice After Year of Grief
By: Wanjiku Mambo
A year of relentless sorrow has driven the bereaved families of Hillside Endarasha School, where 21 boys lost their lives in a fire, to take legal action. Their lawyer,Raphael Okubo, has declared this move long overdue, as their pleas for justice have gone unheard and investigators have left them in a state of uncertainty for over a year.
The families have filed a lawsuit at the Nyeri law court against the Ministry of Education, Hillside Endarasha Academy, and the school's owner. The attorney argues that schools cannot be entrusted with the safety of children if they can turn into "death traps." He emphasizes that, more than a year later, none of those responsible have taken accountability for the tragic events that resulted in the deaths of the young boys.
The parents remain in the dark, still seeking definitive answers about what transpired on that fateful night. Their quest for justice underscores a growing demand for accountability and transparency in the education system, as families hope to find closure and ensure that such a tragedy never happens again.
