Eric Omondi Arrested in Nairobi CBD During County Reduction Signature Drive.

Eric Omondi was arrested on Monday, September 7, 2026, in Nairobi’s Central Business District while collecting signatures for his “Punguza Mzigo” campaign.

Omondi was apprehended by plain clothes police officers near the National Archives, where he was mobilising support for proposed constitutional changes. Video footage showed officers handcuffing him and placing him in a police vehicle.

The campaign seeks to reduce Kenya’s 47 counties to eight regional units, while also proposing the abolition of the Senate and Women Representatives’ positions, removal of nominated representatives and a reduction in the number of MCAs. Omondi is reportedly targeting one million signatures to support the proposed constitutional changes.

Reports differ on the reason for his arrest. Some reports said police had not immediately disclosed the reason, while other reported claims that he was detained over an allegedly unauthorised public gathering.

Ntoogo Junior Calls for Greater Support for Tharaka Nithi Football Talent.

Tharaka Nithi senatorial aspirant Ntoogo Junior has called for increased support for young footballers in the county, citing inadequate training equipment and facilities as major challenges facing aspiring players.

During a visit to a local football team, Ntoogo said many talented youths lack basic equipment such as balls, training kits and proper playing grounds. He cited Iria Ria Mathunka Grounds, the official venue for the Sisi Cup Tournament, where he said even goalposts were unavailable.

Ntoogo pledged to champion county level investment and legislative policies to support sporting talent if elected Senator, saying a vibrant sporting culture could help address youth unemployment and drug abuse.

Muthambi MCA and senatorial aspirant Moris Maigu has welcomed the delivery of eight milk coolers to Tharaka Nithi County, saying the achievement follows efforts by leaders to champion the interests of dairy farmers.

Maigu, however, has raised concerns over how the coolers will be distributed, calling on Governor Muthomi Njuki’s administration to ensure the equipment is allocated fairly and strategically to areas with the greatest need.

He said the delivery is only the beginning and urged the county government to prioritize dairy farmers while pushing for more development, opportunities and better services across Tharaka Nithi.

Maigu said he remains committed to fighting for the interests of dairy farmers and ensuring that development projects benefit residents fairly.
