Tharaka Journalist Junior Mati Forgives Attackers, Recovers Working Tools

Tharaka based digital journalist Junior Mati has broken his silence following the attack he suffered last Sunday night, describing the incident as “terrible” but affirming that God protected him through it.

In his page , Mati expressed gratitude for surviving the ordeal and announced that he has chosen to forgive all individuals involved in the attack.

“To anyone who wishes me harm, I forgive you. I have forgiven before, and I forgive now,” he stated, adding that he also extends forgiveness to the wrongdoers directly linked to the incident.

Mati, who said he has been the subject of intense community discussion over the past week, thanked those who stood by him and prayed for his safety. He confirmed that he has since recovered his stolen working tools, which were crucial to his digital journalism duties.

After holding consultations with various parties, he declared his decision to forgive the individuals alleged to have planned or participated in the attack, noting that everyone ultimately answers for their actions in due time.

The journalist also addressed Tharaka University and its Vice Chancellor, Prof. Murungi, offering an apology on behalf of community members who may have acted emotionally while seeking justice on his behalf.

“If in their pursuit of justice for me they fell short or offended you, I sincerely apologize. However, the truth must remain on record,” he wrote.

Mati concluded his message by thanking members of the public for their support and reaffirmed his faith that “God of all times is lifting me to higher levels.”

Tharaka Nithi Sub County Administrator Faults Security Agencies Over Delayed Justice in Attack on Journalist

The Tharaka Nithi Sub County Administrator for Tharaka North, Fred Kiriri, has expressed frustration over what he terms delayed justice following the recent attack on Tharaka based journalist Junior Mati.

Kiriri called on security agencies to expedite investigations and ensure that those involved are apprehended, stating that slow action risks emboldening perpetrators.

He also urged members of the public to hold individuals accountable for criminal actions rather than linking such activities to institutions. “The Vice-Chancellor of Tharaka University cannot be associated with acts he has no involvement in,” he said.

He also narrated a personal encounter with individuals allegedly linked to student mobilization at Tharaka University. The incident reportedly occurred a day after a fire broke out at the institution.

According to the account, Kiriri faced threats after merely sharing a post from the Department of Fire Services. “I received threats from the university president, Peter Muthomi Njeru. Even though the threats did not intimidate me, I reported the matter to the DCI because criminal responsibility is personal,” he said, adding that he chose not to implicate Tharaka University, emphasizing that institutions should not be judged based on the actions of individuals.

On the attack against journalist Junior Mati, Kiriri strongly condemned the incident and suggested that the Media Council of Kenya be involved, citing concerns that security agencies may not be acting decisively.

“It is important that Mati receives justice and that all individuals involved in the attack are held accountable,” they said.

He also encouraged continued support for Tharaka University and its leadership, stating that many professionals from Tharaka, including Prof. Muriungi, have built admirable careers through dedication.

“In every community, there are individuals who may derail noble efforts, but that should not overshadow the good work being done,” he concluded.

Maara NGCDF, Judiciary Officials Inspect Near Complete Maara Law Court.

The Maara Constituency office and the Maara NG-CDF hosted Chuka High Court Presiding Judge, Lady Justice Roselyn Korir, for an inspection tour of the newly constructed Maara Law Court. The visit brought together key stakeholders in the criminal justice system, including representatives from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), police commanders and National Government Administration Officers (NGAO).

The Maara Law Court, a flagship project spearheaded by the Maara NG-CDF, is now 95 percent complete and is expected to be handed over to the Judiciary soon. During the inspection, Lady Justice Korir commended the project team for the court’s modern and innovative judicial design, noting that Maara is the first to implement such a model.

The same insecurity we highlighted around Tharaka University led to an attack on one of our journalists, Junior Mati, who was ambushed by hired goons on Sunday night claiming he is tarnishing the name of the university.

We are proud that we raised these concerns and that action has finally begun, although it has come too late. This is the same action the university management should have taken long ago instead of resorting to attacks and threats.
