A Bed of Pain, A Home of Love
By Wanjiru Ndiritu
She may be confined to a bed, but her spirit is carried daily by her children’s love. In a quiet home in Githurai where pain often whispers louder than hope, her children have become her source of strength proving that Love is staying when it’s easier to leave.
Yes, they have walked each step of this difficult journey right beside her. Their love has become her lifeline, their presence her journey to healing , a battle she never chose but bravely faces every day. To her, such love is what keeps her going.
This is the story of Mama Simon, a woman who once stood strong, but now rendered motionless by years of illness. Her body has grown weak. She is battling asthma, heart complications, spinal issues, among other issues that remind her of her silent battle.
But, despite all the dark moments that surround her life, humanity has found its way into her home.
It is through the Dibul's Family, during an outreach visit to Githurai 44 courtesy of Phone Place Kenya that light was brought into her world. To them, they had shopping and mobile phones for the family, but what they left at Mama Simon’s was way much great since it was a moment of compassion which was full of tears that brought about a new beginning to her and her family.
As the Dibul's Family entered her home, emotions fill the room. They are hit by the reality of a vibrant mother who is now confined to a mattress, yet surrounded by so much love. Her 11-year- son, has taken up the nursing role where he actively changes her diapers, a role that is far beyond his age. For him this is one role that he carries out daily that shows his deep, genuine and pure love he has for his mother.
The mood is somber therefore tears are flowing freely, as the Bulls Family get to witness such suffering. To Mama Simon’s family it is the small things in life that matter. They are overwhelmed by the rare sight of strangers who care about their pain.
Airing such a story not only brings dignity, but also connection and hope.
Let us come together and change a life since helping one person might not change the world, but it could change the world for that one person. At this time even the smallest efforts makes the greatest difference for no mountain is too high when people climb together.
