🌟 Burundi: Before and After Independence .
Before Independence…
Long before we celebrated Independence Day on 1st July, Burundi was a kingdom with a proud people, living under foreign rule for decades. First, the Germans came, then the Belgians. Our ancestors worked the land, paid taxes they could hardly afford, and watched as decisions about their own country were made far away. Dreams of freedom burned quietly in their hearts.
The spirit of unity and resistance began to rise. Political parties formed, and voices grew stronger, calling for a Burundi governed by Burundians. At the heart of this hope was a young leader Prince Louis Rwagasore, who became the symbol of our independence struggle.”

Independence Arrives…
On 1st July 1962, the world witnessed the birth of an independent Burundi. Our green, white, and red flag flew high, announcing freedom to every hill and valley.
People sang songs of joy. Leaders promised to build a new nation founded on unity, dignity, and progress. But the journey would not be easy. Prince Rwagasore was assassinated only months later, leaving a young nation grieving yet determined.”
Burundi After Independence…
“Since that day, Burundi has written a complex story — of hope and hardship, challenges and resilience. We’ve known periods of peace and times of conflict. We’ve faced economic struggles, political changes, and social tensions.
But we’ve also seen heroes rise, new generations educated, and a vibrant culture that refuses to be silenced. We’ve danced, sung, and held on to our identity.
Today, 63 years later, we honor those who fought and those who fell. We remember where we came from, and we keep dreaming of a Burundi where every citizen thrives.
