Priests And Religious

The historical origin of Priests and Bishops extends back to the Twelve Apostles appointed by Jesus Christ. At a Priest’s ordination, Holy Orders, he promises, with the help of the Holy Spirit, to care for God’s flock, preach the Gospel, teach the Catholic faith, celebrate the sacraments especially the Eucharist and Reconciliation, and pray unceasingly.

This Novena, seeking the Blessed Virgin Mary’s help for all Priests and Religious, can be said during any nine-day period.

O Mary, Mother of Jesus, you were with Him from the beginning of His life on earth and throughout His Ministry. You stood beside Him when He was lifted high on a cross and gave His life for all.

O Mary, we ask you now to be with our Priests, who give themselves in service to God’s people. Intercede for them that they may grow in holiness; proclaim God’s word with courage; celebrate the sacraments with joy; and be among God’s people as Jesus, the Good Shepherd, was.

We offer this prayer to God the Father, through your intercession, in the name of your Son, Jesus, and through the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Our Lady of the Epiphany

Background: The Epiphany is a celebration of the revelation of God the Son, as a human being, in Jesus Christ. The Novena to Our Lady of the Epiphany is a novena to the Blessed Virgin Mary, the earthly Mother of God the Son. Mary, as always, awaits our prayers which she will offer to Jesus her Son, on our behalf, with her blessing. Feast of the Epiphany is 6th January.

O Lady of the Epiphany, through your power, glory and love, show us your salvation Jesus Christ.

Our Lady of Perpetual Help

Background: Our Lady of Perpetual Help is a title given to the Blessed Virgin Mary by Pope Pius IX. It is associated with the highly esteemed Byzantine image on display in the Church of St Alfonso di Liguori, Rome. The Feast Day is the 27th June.

See at Your feet, O Mother of Perpetual Help, a poor sinner who has recourse to You and confides in You.

St Francis Xavier

Life Story: St Francis was born the youngest son of an aristocratic family at Xavier Castle, Spain. Much of his youth was mired by wars. His father died when he was nine years old. At 19, he left his home to study in Paris and five years later, was awarded a Masters degree in Arts.

Although apparently destined for an academic life, St Francis, with St Ignatius of Loyola and five others, founded the Society of Jesus (The Jesuits). All made vows of poverty, chastity and obedience, and planned to work as missionaries, converting non-Christians. They studied together for the Priesthood and were all ordained in 1537.

St Francis set off for Asia as the first Jesuit missionary. He devoted his main missionary life to Goa in India, Indonesia and Japan and converted many thousands to Christianity. He died while on his way to mainland China to continue his preaching and conversion, aged just 46yrs. St Francis’ Feast Day is the 3rd December. He is Patron Saint of many missions throughout the world.

Novena to St Francis Xavier

O Great St. Francis, beloved and full of charity, with you I reverently adore the divine Majesty; and since I especially rejoice in the singular gifts of grace, bestowed on you in life, and of glory after death, I give thanks to God, and beg of you, with all the affections of my heart, that by your powerful intercession you may obtain for me above all things the grace to live a holy life and die a holy death. Express Novena of Mother Teresa – Memorare

St Bernard’s Memorare was used as an “express one-day” novena by St Mother Teresa to our Blessed Mother Mary for the grace of urgent favours. She repeated the prayer nine times, often aloud and with her accompanying Nuns and helpers.

Remember, O Most Gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known
that anyone who fled to your protection,
implored your help or sought your intercession,
was left unaided.

Inspired with this confidence,

Novena For Missing Children

Lord, we pray that you look with favour on the cause of your servant, Blessed Antonio Rosmini. In your loving kindness, please remember his total faith and abandonment to Divine Providence, his love of Holy Mother Church and his boundless works of charity as he laboured tirelessly here on earth in union with your son, Jesus. Grant us the grace, which we ask through his intercession, to have his sanctity revealed to us.
