South Africaโ€™s Pranay Kapur put on a masterclass in patience and precision to win the 2025 NCBA Kabete Open at the scenic VetLab Sports Club in Nairobi.

After a shaky start in Round 1 of 78, the Royal Johannesburg-based golfer bounced back with a sizzling 68 in Round 2 and sealed the deal with a composed 71 on the final day, finishing at +1 (217).

Kapur held off Kenyaโ€™s Adel Balala and Zambiaโ€™s Gilbert Chalwe, who tied for second at +3.

This Saturday, July 19, over 100 golfers will take on the lush fairways of Windsor Golf Hotel & Country Club during the clubโ€™s Monthly Mug, another crucial qualifier in this yearโ€™s series.

With the finale slated for November at Muthaiga Golf Club, competition is getting fiercer as more golfers eye a spot in the prestigious showdown.
Last weekend at Eldoret Golf Club, Dennis Rono led three others; Shadrack Ngetich, Jedidah Keitany, and Jonathan Barorot, to qualify for the finale after stellar performances.

Top amateurs tee off today at the NCBA Kabete Open at Vet Lab, the first leg of the Kenya Swing.

This yearโ€™s event will feature 90 elite amateur golfers, including 80 from Kenya and 10 international players representing Rwanda, Mauritius, Austria, Zambia, South Africa, and Burundi.

The cut-off for qualification was a handicap index of 5, underlining the high calibre of competition expected.

Defending champion Adel Balala, a three-time winner (2021, 2022, 2024), returns in pursuit of a record fourth title.

He will face stiff competition from current KAGC leader John Lejirma, Michael Karanga, and home club standout Ebill Omolo.

Teenage sensation Kanana Muthomi, Bianca Ngecu, Joyce Wanjiru, Mercy Nyanchama, and Kellie Gachaga will be among the lady golfers in the competition.

International entrants include Rwandaโ€™s Niyonkuru Alain, South Africaโ€™s Pranay Kapur, and Zambiaโ€™s Gilbert Chalwe, further raising the competitive bar for the event.

The Kabete Open marks the first leg of the three-part Kenya Swing, which continues with the Kenya Amateur Matchplay Championship at Sigona Golf Club and concludes with the Kenya Amateur Strokeplay Championship back at Vet Lab.

The Kenya Swing format is designed to offer continuous high-level competition and enhance international participation, giving local players a chance to test their skills against regional and global peers.

Rono Shines as Four Qualify for NCBA Golf Series Grand Finale at Eldoret Leg

Dennis Rono stole the show at Eldoret Golf Club last Saturday beat more than 100 golfers to emerge winner during the clubโ€™s Monthly Mug sponsored by NCBA Bank.

Rono, carding a brilliant 64 off handicap 34, emerged the overall winner and secure his place in the NCBA Golf Series Grand Finale set for November at Muthaiga Golf Club.

Three other golfers also booked their spots in the coveted season finale.

Shadrack Ngetich, playing off handicap 6, claimed the menโ€™s title with a score of 66, while Jedidah Keitany, off handicap 21, topped the ladiesโ€™ category with 75 points.

In the junior division, Jonathan Barorot (handicap 17) delivered an impressive round of 70 to take top honours.

The four now join a growing list of qualifiers from across Kenya and the region who will compete for top honours at the Grand Finale.
