MUTUAL EDIFICATION
Romans 14:19
( Quote from NIV Bible)
14:19....... Let us make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification.
We are admonished in the above passage to do " what leads to peace and to mutual edification"
The word " mutual" implies a two- way traffic.
It therefore means we should aim at edifying each other.
He who preaches, should also be prepared to be preached to. He who teaches should also be prepared to be taught.
As believers in Christ Jesus, we are all students. Our Teacher is only one - the Holy Spirit. Our Teacher, the Holy Spirit, takes from Christ Jesus our Lord and makes it known to us.
For these reason, a message from the Lord that brings edification can come from anyone - even the most unlikely of our fellow brethrens.
So, nobody should dismiss his fellow brethrens saying " what can this fellow tell me or teach me?"
You may be a Pastor. But you are a student of the Lord. You may consider yourself a prophet but you are a student of the Lord. You may be a teacher of the word of God, but remember you too are a student of the Lord . We can go on and say the same about those who regard themselves as apostles, Evangelists and so on.
In a nutshell, even as we speak out the word to others, we must be prepared to listen to the word as delivered by others. In this way, we learn something from others even as they too learn something from us.
