UPDATE: The government is advancing a new bill that proposes major gambling & gaming reforms.

Key among the changes;

The introduction of a "cooling system" that would restrict individuals to placing only one bet per day across all platforms.

Additionally, betting companies would be required to contribute a portion of their profits to a state-managed rehabilitation fund aimed at supporting addiction treatment

The bill seeks to tighten control over the gambling industry by expanding the powers of the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB). Operators will now face heavier penalties for violations, including large fines for non-compliance.

The bill proposes a real-time, nationwide monitoring system to track all gambling activity. This system would allow regulators to detect suspicious betting patterns, enforce daily bet limits, and crack down on illegal operators.

Initially, lawmakers considered raising the legal gambling age from 18 to 24, but this faced strong opposition from industry stakeholders and civil liberties advocates.

Instead, the bill now focuses on strengthening consumer protections, such as stricter advertising rules and measures to prevent predatory lending to gamblers.
