FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Hussein Community Youth Oppose the Gubernatorial Candidature of Mohamed Ibrahim Elmi in Wajir County (2027)
We, the youth of the Hussein community, wish to express our firm and united opposition to the gubernatorial ambitions of Hon. Mohamed Ibrahim Elmi in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
While we acknowledge his long-standing presence in Wajir politics, having served as Member of Parliament for Wajir East and later Tarbaj Constituency for a combined 10 years, we are deeply concerned by his track record of underperformance, exclusionary politics, and failure to uplift the youth and community at large.
1. Lack of Tangible Development in Wajir East and Tarbaj
During his decade in Parliament, Hon. Elmi presided over constituencies that remained stagnant in terms of meaningful infrastructure, education, healthcare, and basic public services. Roads remain impassable, water scarcity persists, and essential government services are inaccessible in many areas. His tenure is remembered more for missed opportunities than impactful development.
2. Failure to Create Employment Opportunities for Youth
Despite growing youth unemployment across the region, Hon. Elmi did not initiate or champion any sustainable programs aimed at equipping the youth with skills or creating jobs. His leadership lacked vision and responsiveness to the economic realities facing thousands of young people in Wajir. As a result, many of our peers continue to face poverty and marginalization.
3. Promotion of Division within the Fai Community
We are particularly alarmed by Hon. Elmi’s history of divide-and-rule politics, especially within the Fai community. His political strategy has consistently focused on sowing division, pitting brothers against each other, and weakening community cohesion for personal gain. These tactics have eroded unity and fostered mistrust among sub-clans—undermining the very social fabric that holds our community together.

Our Position Moving Forward
We call upon all youth, elders, professionals, and community leaders in Wajir—especially from the Hussein community—to reject the politics of stagnation, exclusion, and division. The future of Wajir County demands fresh, visionary, and inclusive leadership that prioritizes development, youth empowerment, and unity.
As Hussein youth, we categorically state that we will not support, endorse, or remain silent in the face of a political comeback by an individual who has repeatedly failed our community. We urge other communities within Wajir to scrutinize past records, not mere promises.
A Call for Change
We are committed to supporting leaders who:
Have a proven track record of service delivery.
Promote unity and fairness across all communities.
Put the interests of youth and future generations first.
Wajir deserves better. The time for real change is now.

Hussein Community youth
