The below post starts with a famous quote from the British philosopher John Stuart Mill regarding free speech.

A well-functioning society needs many people sharing and discussing different ideas, but there is an ongoing debate about whether there should be speech regulations and/or media regulations. Some people argue that the government should restrict various types of words or ideas, though there is often disagreement about exactly which ideas/words should be banned. While most people argue about which words/ideas to restrict, classical liberals oppose all restrictions and defend total free speech.

We will be exploring these ideas (and more) at the NPC panel discussion on Standards & bias in Cambodian media, being held from 12-2pm tomorrow (Sat, 5-Nov) as part of The Kampot Writers & Readers Festival, Nov 3-7, 2016. កម្មវិធី សិល្បះ វប្បធម៍ និពន្ធ និង អាន.
